House 2 (Haus 2) - Squad Errenterea, 2004

»The three models represent houses from the Basque country. Photographs and
newspaper excerpts from the region have been pasted on the walls, showing shots
from a visit in 2004. I associate personal memories from the mid-1980s with two of
the houses, the third one I discovered in 2003, an occupied house in Erenterria.
The ephemeral nature of the snapshots is supposed to underscore the memories,
just as the impossibility of approaching the political situation in the region as an outsider.
Driving through the Basque mountains by car and seeing the houses standing
in the countryside like models gave my work its shape. The photographs on them
reflect their surroundings.
As a third level I collected Frans Haaken’s illustrations for Sergej Prokofjev’s Peter
and the Wolf, Leipzig 1958.
A metaphorical story for an idealised society. The figurine at House 2, a dead bumblebee
riding on a clover, a charm.«
