Hunt For the Unabomber, 2005

»For my remake of the documentary Hunt For the Unabomber I disassembled stills
and animations from the original and then modelled them in clay, junk, thread and
polystyrene. Concepts and models are formed in clay similar to the way our mind
forms memories, ideas and representations of the world. These handmade recreations
are put back together and filmed to form a new documentary, just slightly less
connected to reality than the original. Some of the representations, in both the original
version and in my remake, are highly subjective visual statements, which carry
little visible resemblance to the original subjects. In contrast other moments present
minutely precise copies of say a house, or a photograph of a relevant person. Many
scenes are in both versions of the film highly neutral as concerns their connection
with the history told. A specific airplane for instance, which in the original film has
to become any airplane, since it is impossible to show the actual plane from the earlier
event, is in my version represented by a winged detergent bottle.«
