Circular Circular Circular 15/20 20 2009 20 09
18 September 200 2009 200
We must learn to view change as a natural phenomenon – to anticipate it and to plan for it. The future is ours to
channel in the direction we want to go... we must continually ask ourselves, "What will happen if...?" or better still,
"How can we make it happen?"
Lisa Taylor #
Change is accompanied by different emotions and I believe that each learner, parent and teacher was
confronted by change during the last three years. At the end of term three I would like to salute the teachers
that helped to channel Midstream in the right direction. By means of endless energy and innovative ways giant
leaps were taken towards establishing Midstream College. Senior management had a lion’s share in the
planning and steering of the Midstream ship.
A handful of teachers and approximately 180 learners were part of our first Inter–house athletics on the primary
school’s rugby field in 2007. Our first (p)Articipate gala evening was held on the Bondev pavilion on a windy
evening in September of the same year. Inter–house athletics this year, with spontaneous singing, and our
recent (p)Articipate illustrate the immense progress we have shown.
(p)Articipate 2009 and our revue bore witness to the enthusiasm and positive attitude among teachers and
learners. There were more than 800 entries in the different categories.
My wish for every learner, especially our matrics after their record exam, and every teacher is a well deserved
rest. I hope to welcome you all back on 6 October with your glasses overflowing and with the will power to make
things happen at Midstream.
Reports
All learners have received their third term reports today. The grade 8–11 report reflects the learner’s subject
average per subject for the third term, the average of the year mark to date of the learner and the year mark
average of the subject. The grade 12 report reflects the Preliminary examination results per subject, as well as
the learner’s year mark to date in each subject. Kindly note that in some subjects the year mark is not finalised.
Expo For Young Scientists
Eight learners participated in the Gauteng North Expo and fared as follows:
• Merit Certificate: Jarred Willcocks and Andries Duvenage.
• Silver Medals: Christene Verhoef, Jason Matthee, Van Wyk Pretorius, Walner Hill and Talita du Buisson.
• Gold Medal: Ruco Pretorius. Ruco’s project was adjudicated as the best energy project and he has been
invited to the National Expo.
