C. Fuel Tank - Water Draining
WARNING: DO NOT LET JET FUEL AND LUBRICATING OILS TOUCH
YOU. THESE FLUIDS CAUSE INJURY TO THE SKIN.
(1) Do the steps that follow to drain the water from the fuel tanks:
(a) Use the fuel sampler (GSE 022) to push the drain valve poppet up to
open the drain valve. Refer to GSE Appendix.
NOTE: The drain valve closes when you remove the fuel sampler
(GSE 022) from the drain valve poppet. Drain several
times until the fuel in the container shows no water. Examine
the collected fuel for contamination, especially at the
fuel/water interface.
(b) Remove the fuel sampler (GSE 022) after you drain a sufficient
amount of fuel.
NOTE: Make sure that the drain valve poppet is in the closed position
and that there is no fuel leak.
(2) Visually examine the collected fuel for contamination. If you see microorganisms
or other unwanted matter in the fuel, use a Fuel Microorganisms
Test Kit (Microb Monitor 2) to check for the presence of microorganisms.
Obey the instructions of the test kit manufacturer.
NOTE: Refer to the full instructions (aviation fuel item) to do the procedures.
(4) If the Fuel Microorganisms Test Kit (Microb Monitor 2) detects the presence
of microorganisms, please use the contact information given in the GHSH
Introduction for the applicable maintenance action to wing fuel tank decontamination.
WARNING: WHEN YOU DISCARD DANGEROUS CONSUMABLE
MATERIALS, USE PROCEDURES THAT AGREE WITH
LOCAL REGULATIONS. THESE MATERIALS CAN
CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND CONTAMINATION OF
THE ENVIRONMENT.
(5) Discard the collected fuel.
(6) Do this procedure again for the other drain valve.
