(c) Release the towing lever to lock the towbar head to the nose landing<br />
gear tow fitting.<br />
(6) Connect the other end of the towbar (GSE 027) to the tractor.<br />
C. Towing with Towbar<br />
CAUTION: OBEY THE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS DURING THE TOWING<br />
OPERATIONS: A TECHNICIAN MUST STAY IN THE COCK-<br />
PIT TO SET THE EMERGENCY/PARKING BRAKE, IF NEC-<br />
ESSARY. ALL PERSONS IN THE COCKPIT MUST BE IN A<br />
SEAT AND THE SEATBELT MUST BE FASTENED.<br />
(1) Pressurize the main hydraulic system (GHSH TASK 29-10-00-901-803-A/<br />
200).<br />
(2) Make sure that there is a technician in the cockpit to set the emergency<br />
parking brake if necessary.<br />
(3) Release the emergency/parking brake.<br />
(4) Tow the aircraft slowly straight ahead before you try to do a turn. The maximum<br />
speed recommended for aircraft towing is the walking speed.<br />
NOTE: • During the towing operation, use the emergency/parking<br />
brake only if the towbar (GSE 027) uncouples from the towing<br />
vehicle or from the aircraft.<br />
• If the aircraft emergency/parking brake is applied during the<br />
towing operation, regardless of the speed, do a check of the<br />
integrity of the shear pin of the towbar head (GSE 026).<br />
• If during the towing operation, the towbar head (GSE 026)<br />
shear pin is broken, do the inspection of the NLG (Nose<br />
Landing Gear) for damage and replacement of the shear pin<br />
,as given in step (5) of this procedure.<br />
(5) Nose Landing Gear - Inspection (Figure 203)<br />
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE AIRCRAFT IS IN A SAFE<br />
CONDITION BEFORE YOU DO THE MAINTENANCE<br />
PROCEDURES. THIS IS TO PREVENT INJURY TO<br />
PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.<br />
(a) Make sure that the wheel chocks are in position against the landing<br />
gear wheels.<br />
(b) In the cockpit, make sure that the landing-gear control lever is in the<br />
DN position.<br />
(c) Use a flashlight and a mirror, if necessary, to examine these components<br />
of the NLG:<br />
• Main fitting<br />
• Sliding tube<br />
• Retraction actuator<br />
