I’d like to introduce you to the Make More
Save More Series, which will be The Main Line Chamber of
Commerce’s major education initiative of 2011. The series
addresses the key issues at the heart of businesses.
The need to increase sales topped the list of significant issues
businesses face, according to an October survey of Chamber
members. While 82 percent of the 100 respondents listed
growing sales as one of their most significant issues, working
to manage costs ranked second at 56 percent.
The Make More Save More Series will be eight breakfast
events held at the Philadelphia Marriott West in West
Conshohocken, where the programs will be easily accessible
to both core Chamber members along the Main Line as well
as companies from King of Prussia, Blue Bell, Center City and
of course, Conshohocken. The high quality of the program is
expected to attract executives who haven’t regularly
attended Chamber events.
Speakers being lined up for the program include Ed Wallace,
author of Business Relationships That Last, a book now being
sold in major bookstores. Wallace was vice president of
business development at Vertex of Berwyn for 20 years,
when the tax software company grew from $1 million in
revenue to more than $120 million. Another speaker will be
the “Pennypincher” Gene Marks, a former KPMG accountant
whose columns about saving money appear on websites by
publications such as BusinessWeek, Forbes and the New York
Times Online as well as in the Philadelphia Business Journal.
There will be built‐in time to network with top‐level
executives at each of the events, in keeping with the
successful model used in creating The Main Line Society of
Professional Women, another Chamber program that has
taken off in recent years.
Wachovia, a Wells Fargo Company, is the title sponsor of the
series.
Make More Save More Series events will be held the first
Friday of each month, starting February 4.

The Devereux Community Supported Employment (CSE)
program has created the “Autism Works!” initiative to help
inform businesses about the Work Opportunity Tax Credit
(WOTC) as well as several other benefits. For example, did you
know that many employers report increased morale and
retention in the entire workplace after hiring someone with a
disability? Or that people who are disabled are the largest single
minority in the US, and with their loved ones, represent a

for what is known as Operation Holiday. This year is no
different. From Thanksgiving to New Years, Operation
Holiday collects money for ElderNet’s Emergency Shelter
Services of Lower Merion (ESSLM) Fund. This fund is given
out year round as a means to help people who are in
temporary need. Donations collected are given as one time
grants to help low income, homeless or elderly people in
Lower Merion with emergency housing, utility bills, back rent

On October 21, The Main Line Chamber Foundation was one of many non‐profits to receive $1,000 from
Wachovia Bank’s Community Partners Program. Maria Rankin, VP Financial Sales Leader‐Main Line
Region, designated the Foundation as a recipient. The ceremony was held at Wachovia’s headquarters
in Philadelphia. On November 9, The Chamber took part in the Hyatt Place ribbon cutting ceremony.
