This innovative intellectual endeavor will challenge students to test their own goals against other peoples’ educational<br />

and intellectual systems, and encourage them to develop their own disciplinary interests and build a range of language,<br />

research, archival, new media, expository, and networking skills. It is envisioned that GSP would be offered through<br />

various other <strong>Global</strong> <strong>Centers</strong> in the coming years.<br />

Office of <strong>Global</strong> <strong>Centers</strong><br />

Leadership<br />

Ken Prewitt,<br />

Vice President for <strong>Global</strong> <strong>Centers</strong><br />

Kenneth Prewitt is the Vice President for <strong>Global</strong> <strong>Centers</strong> and the Carnegie Professor of Public Affairs at <strong>Columbia</strong><br />

University. In addition to teaching for many years at the University of Chicago, he has served as the Director of the<br />

United States Census Bureau, Director of the National Opinion Research Center, President of the Social Science<br />

Research Council, and Senior Vice President of the Rockefeller Foundation.<br />

As second-in-command, Professor Safwan Masri, Chair of the <strong>Columbia</strong> <strong>Global</strong> <strong>Centers</strong> Director Group, provides<br />

oversight, direction and guidance to the group of <strong>Global</strong> Center Directors, in addition to serving as Director of the<br />

<strong>Columbia</strong> <strong>Global</strong> <strong>Centers</strong> | Middle East and Acting Director of the <strong>Columbia</strong> <strong>Global</strong> <strong>Centers</strong> | East Asia.<br />

Team<br />

The Office of <strong>Global</strong> <strong>Centers</strong>’ team includes: Xin Peng, Executive Director of Finance and Administration; Monique<br />

Smith, Special Assistant to the Vice President for <strong>Global</strong> <strong>Centers</strong>; and Yewande Jegede, Financial Coordinator.<br />

Edward Silver, the Associate General Counsel at <strong>Columbia</strong> University serves as the advisor to the <strong>Global</strong> <strong>Centers</strong><br />

on all legal matters.<br />

The <strong>Global</strong> <strong>Centers</strong> coordinate closely with the Office of <strong>Global</strong> <strong>Centers</strong> in New York on issues ranging from<br />

administrative, to financial, to standardization of policies, as well as ensuring compliance with <strong>Columbia</strong> and U.S.<br />

regulations. The <strong>Columbia</strong> <strong>Global</strong> <strong>Centers</strong> | Middle East is working with the Office of <strong>Global</strong> <strong>Centers</strong> to help<br />

develop a standard operating policies and procedures manual that can be utilized across the network.<br />
