The indicators point to the possibility that Nepal may achieve MDG targets on child<br />

mortality before 2015. A survey, conducted in 2010 in rural areas of 40 districts, shows<br />

that in these areas IMR has fallen to 41 deaths per 1,000 live births and U5MR to 50<br />

deaths per 1,000 live births (NPC, 2010). These figures suggest that the national target<br />

for U5MR has already been achieved.<br />
