The indicators point to the possibility that Nepal may achieve MDG targets on child
mortality before 2015. A survey, conducted in 2010 in rural areas of 40 districts, shows
that in these areas IMR has fallen to 41 deaths per 1,000 live births and U5MR to 50
deaths per 1,000 live births (NPC, 2010). These figures suggest that the national target
for U5MR has already been achieved.
