in the USGS analytical laboratories in Denver where a<br />

large array <strong>of</strong> analytical equipment is available for<br />

rapid turn around analysis. The USGS has significant<br />

expertise in the handling and analysis <strong>of</strong> all types <strong>of</strong><br />

rock and mineral materials. In addition, the USGS<br />

Minerals and Human Project has, for the last five<br />

years, provided rapid turn around, health-related information<br />

to agencies such as U.S. Environmental Protection<br />

Agency and U.S. Public Health Service on issues<br />

including characterization <strong>of</strong> asbestos in soils to<br />

characterization <strong>of</strong> the dust generated by the collapse<br />

<strong>of</strong> the World Trade Center buildings.<br />
