glassy materials in the laboratory, which would<br />

significantly affect the mechanical properties and melting<br />

characteristics <strong>of</strong> the lunar highland simulant. Otherwise,<br />

the basic properties <strong>of</strong> the lunar highland root<br />

simulant, JSC-3, should be similar to the chemistry,<br />

grain size, average grain size distribution, and mixture<br />

<strong>of</strong> lithic fragments, mineral fragments, and nonvesicular<br />

glassy particles <strong>of</strong> a lunar highland regolith<br />

soil, and, therefore, would be a good simulant for some<br />
