The Lake County Sheriff's Office Merit Commission met in a regular session on Thursday,
August 16, 2012 at the Division of Transportation, 600 W. Winchester Road, Libertyville,
Illinois, with the following:

Session called to order at 9:00AM by Chairperson Watson.
Minutes from the 7/19/12 regular session and 8/2/12, 8/9/12 special session meetings were
reviewed and unanimously approved on motion of John Matijevich, seconded by Hank Bogdala.
Executive session minutes from 7/19/12 and 8/2/12 were reviewed in Executive session but
unanimously approved in open session on motion from John Matijevich, seconded by Hank
Bogdala.
A summary of Personnel Action Items was distributed and accepted and ordered placed on file
on motion of John Matijevich, seconded by Hank Bogdala.
A summary of the YTD budget was distributed and reviewed, as well as expense reports
reviewed and signed. John Matijevich made a motion to approve reports as presented, seconded
by Hank Bogdala. All in favor.
Review was made of the current entry and lateral transfer eligibility lists. Our current Conditional
Certified Eligibility list has 45 candidates. There are eight candidates on the Supplemental
Transfer list. There are currently four candidates on the Certified Eligibility list.

Motion for a recess was made by Chairman Watson at 9:40AM. John Matijevich seconded. All
in favor.
Meeting reconvened at 9:50AM.
Chief Brian Keller advised there will potentially be twelve (12) open Deputy Sheriff positions by
the end of September. Currently there are three entry candidates attending the Suburban Law
Enforcement Academy at the College of DuPage. There are two recent new hires still in the field
training program. There are currently five lateral transfers that are in the background phase of the
transfer process, and three taking the psychological evaluation.
Chief Keller advised that the Sheriff’s Office received positive feedback regarding the Sheriff’s
display at the Lake County fair. The new set-up, brochures, and the Dodge Charger squad car
parked in the display were well received by fair attendees of all ages.
Chairperson Watson then requested a motion to go into Executive session at 10:00AM pursuant
to Chapter 5 of ILCS ACT 120 SECTION 2(c)(1), Chapter 5 of ILCS SECTION 2(c)(11), and 5
ILCS 120/2(c)(14). Motion made by Hank Bogdala, seconded by John Matijevich.
The meeting was reconvened to regular session by Chairperson Watson at 10:55AM.
Review was made of ten entry candidate application and screening examinations. By unanimous
vote Anthony Ruffolo and Michael Suspenzi will continue in the testing. By unanimous vote
Michael Bassi and Jadeer Judah were certified to the Sheriff. By unanimous vote Jeffrey Grant,
Shannon McMillon, Michael Mortell, Jr., Mark Petrucci and Nicholas Tomaso were rejected.
The Commission was not able to come to a decision on candidate Peter Djuric, so his file and
testing results will be reviewed by the two absent Commission members at a future meeting.
John Matijevich made a motion to accept those who were certified, who will continue in the
testing, and rejected. Hank Bogdala seconded. All in favor.
