John Lesaine enters his second<br />
year as the assistant women’s<br />
basketball coach after helping<br />
the Wolves to a 21-9 overall<br />
finish and a berth in the NCAA<br />
tournament in 2009-10.<br />
In addition to the core coaching<br />
responsibilities involved<br />
with the position, Lesaine is in<br />
charge of recruiting, strength<br />
and conditioning and film exchange.<br />
He also assists in ensuring<br />
his players’ success in<br />
the classroom.<br />
Lesaine graduated from Newberry<br />
College and is excited to return to campus. “I’m eager to<br />

Sean Page is entering his third<br />
year as the head coach of the<br />
Newberry College women’s basketball<br />
team and is the current<br />
reigning South Atlantic Conference<br />
Coach of the Year.<br />
The Wolves played to a 21-9<br />
finish, 12-4 in the South Atlantic<br />
Conference, and were selected<br />
to play in the 2009-10 NCAA<br />
tournament. The season was the<br />
most successful in Page’s coaching<br />
career, topping his 18-11 finish<br />
in 2008-09.<br />
Page led the team to a thirdplace<br />
conference finish in his first season and a second place finish<br />
in his second. He now feels more familiarity with his team,<br />
the school and the leauge and looks to continue the program’s<br />
succcess in the 2010-11 campaign.<br />
Page came to Newberry after two seasons at Brescia University<br />
in Owensboro, Ky. In his two years at the helm, the Bearcats went<br />
38-27. Prior to Page’s leadership, Brescia had won 11 games in<br />
the previous two seasons and was 1-29 in the 2005-2006 regular<br />
season (3-30 overall).<br />
In his initial season at Brescia, Page was named the NAIA Division<br />
I Women’s Independent Coach of the Year after leading the<br />
team to a 20-14 record and a berth in the NAIA National Tournament.<br />
The Bearcats upset top-seeded Lee University in the opening<br />
round to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. The win was the first<br />
win by a No. 8 seed over a top seed in NAIA Tournament history.<br />
In 2007-08, the Bearcats recorded a record of 18-13, once again<br />
advancing to the NAIA National Tournament.<br />
Prior to his employment at Brescia, Page spent five years as an<br />
Assistant Coach at the NCAA Division I level.<br />
He spent one year at Boise State University, followed by four<br />
seasons at Troy University. As an assistant coach, Page’s duties included<br />
on-court coaching, practice and game preparation, individual<br />
player development, scouting, video breakdown and analysis,<br />
preparing scouting reports, recruiting, academic counseling, media<br />
relations and monitoring strength and conditioning programs.<br />
During his five years at the NCAA Division I level, Page recruited<br />
three Conference Freshmen of the year and coached nine All-Conference<br />
representatives.<br />
Before his coaching career in the United States, Page spent many<br />
years coaching at various levels in his native Australia. He holds<br />
an Australian National Coach Accreditation Scheme level two and<br />
was a Head Coach in the Australian Basketball Association (ABA)<br />
from 1994 to 2001.<br />
As an ABA head coach, Page’s teams had three final four appearances<br />
and a conference championship. He also coached numerous<br />
junior representative teams at the local, regional, state and national<br />
levels dating back to 1985, including a National Championship<br />
win with the Queensland Under-20 Women’s team in 1995.<br />
Page’s coaching experience in Australia also included a stint with<br />
Basketball Queensland as a Regional Development Officer and as<br />
an Intensive Training Center Program (ITCP) Head Coach. As part<br />
of the first ITCP in Queensland, he worked with elite athletes<br />
and coaches from the Sunshine Coast and various other regions<br />
in Southeast Queensland. As the Regional Development Officer,<br />
Page was responsible for the marketing, promotion and growth of<br />
the sport in the Sunshine Coast region.<br />
Page, who hails from Maroochydore, Queensland, Australia, is<br />
married to the former Susan Sessions from Birmingham, Ala., and<br />
has two daughters, Amy, 16 and Hannah, 12, and a son, Macauley,<br />

return to my alma mater and be a part of the community again,”<br />
Lesaine stated. “I’m confident my experience and familiarity with<br />
the conference and the region can be a great asset to this program.”<br />
Lesaine graduated in 2007 and received a bachelor’s degree<br />
in Sport Management.<br />
Lesaine returned to Newberry after spending two years at Valdosta<br />
State as their graduate assistant for women’s basketball. In<br />
that role, Lesaine coordinated film exchange, team travel and academics.<br />
Lesaine helped the team achieve a national tournament<br />
berth in both the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons. He received his<br />
master’s degree from Valdosta State in Higher Education Leadership.<br />
“I’m thrilled to be a part of the program and work alongside<br />
Coach Page,” said Lesaine. “I know that I will be able to learn a<br />
great deal from him and his system. This is a great opportunity to<br />
improve the program and become a better coach.”
