Eco-Shade Brise Soleil Systems
Par Eco-Shade Brise Soleil, introduces
creative, attractive and sustainable solar
shading concepts for the building designer.
Par can now offer architects a choice of
timber profiles for solar shading which can
be in solely or in with standard aluminium
louvre blade profiles.
Western Red Cedarwood is our timber of choice
and is the most popular softwood used for solar
shading purposes, mainly due to it’s durability,
it’s sustainability and
because it has a
natural tendency to
remain flat and avoid
warping. It is packed with preservative oils and
chemicals and is resistant to insect attack. Over
time, untreated cedar will change colour to a
warm silvery grey colour. Par can also supply
other timber types such as Douglas Fir and
European Oak. Both of these timbers have high
durability qualities.

Profiles
We can offer a variety of timber shading
louvre profiles (see drawings), including
some of the more popular profiles such as
elliptical and rectangular sections. We can
also produce bespoke profiles in various
lengths and widths to suit your design
requirements.

Timber Louvre Selection
Independent Timber Certification is
particularly important and we ensure that
all wood products are sourced from legally
and sustainably managed forests.
What timber species to use to achieve long
term performance is critical when it comes
to the service life of your solar shading.
Generally, the greater the natural durability,
the longer the service life – with the added
bonus of utilising the timber’s natural
‘preservative’ properties.
How it performs in terms of weathering can
be strongly influenced by its resistance to
the effects of light (ultraviolet and visible
wavelengths) and moisture. As stated
previously, the greater the natural durability,
the longer the service life – this in turn can
be further extended by the selection of a
factory applied coating system.
Budget considerations should be considered
over the service life of the timber product –
short term cost savings will usually lead to
increased maintenance costs.
Technical Considerations:
Climate
• Moderate (non-coastal/low altitude)
• Hard (areas within half a mile of coastline)
• Extreme (exposed coastal/high altitude)
Aspect
The prevailing weather in the UK is from
the south and west facing aspects;
therefore, consideration should be given to
the variations in weathering/maintenance
cycles.
Construction
‘Partly sheltered’ versus ‘Not sheltered’
will again lead to variations in weathering/
maintenance cycles.
Sustainability Policy
It is our policy to purchase timber wherever
possible, from well managed forest sources.
Par Louvre Systems Ltd purchase timber
materials sourced mainly in the UK. This allows
us to carefully track the origins of the timber
supplied. We are committed to sourcing all
timber and timber products from legal sources
as defined by the UK government and we only
work with suppliers that have demonstrated to
us that they too are committed to ensuring the
supply of legal and sustainable timber products.
We endeavour to work in partnership with
our suppliers and customers to facilitate the
provision of clear information
about the sources or our
wood products wherever
practicable. We take guidance with regards
to timber procurement from organisations
such as TRADA, Timber Trade Federation and
government publications.
Timber is an organic living material and whilst
every care is taken when procuring and
preparing the timber for use as Brise Soleil
Shading, Par Louvre Systems Ltd do not take
any responsibility for the potential warping or
movement of the material used.
