BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT
Q & A with Toscana 52 Co-Owner Riccardo Longo
WHAT STYLE OF FOOD DO YOU OFFER AT TOSCANA 52
Our team of Native Italian chef's present an authentic modern
Tuscan vision of Italian cooking. Featuring everything from
Crudo, which is Italian sushi, to a variety of innovative homemade
pastas, certified Angus meats, fresh fish delivered daily and
poultry featuring our signature Sicilian Duck. In addition to using
traditional fresh ingredients such as extra virgin olive oil, garlic, &
Tuscan spices, you will find modern Italian ingredients such as
mango, avocado, walnuts, pear, & ginger infused into many of
our dishes.
WHAT'S AN EXAMPLE OF A MODERN TUSCAN DISH
A great example of this new modern Italian cuisine are the
Champagne Pear Sacchetti. This is a wildly popular dish with our
guests which features artisan pasta sacks delicately filled with
fresh pear & ricotta cheese, topped with a walnut-champagne
cream sauce & micro green accents. It's a flavor sensation.
DO YOU ALSO OFFER ITALIAN STANDARDS SUCH AS
SPAGHETTI & CHICKEN PARMESAN
Of course, Italian cuisine is changing & evolving , but c e r t a i n
classics will always be there. Being a native Italian myself I take
pride in the classics & make sure that our chef's use only the finest
fresh ingredients & adhere to our family recipes.
THE RESTAURANT IS TRULY BEAUTIFUL, WHAT WAS THE
INSPIRATION FOR THE DESIGN
The inspiration is our families trips to Tuscany every summer.
The architectural details of the building inside & out are taken from
photos of Tuscan villas & restaurants that we have visited over the
years. Our banquet room, for example, is done in the style of a
Tuscan winery that we visited. Being native Italian, it was important
to our family to bring a truly authentic Tuscan design & emotion to the restaurant.
WHAT DOES THE “52” STAND FOR
Each week our team of chef's present a supplemental menu featuring the cuisine of a different
city. This will feature a selection of appetizers, entrees , wines & local cocktails. The “52” menus have
been extremely successful & many of our guests come in each week to try a different cities
specialties. We rotate 3 Italian & 1 non Italian city each month. Cities include Rome, Paris, Monte
Carlo, Havana, Venice, Florence, Barcelona, Rio and many more.
HOW ABOUT THE BAR . . .
We offer almost 50 wines & champagnes by the glass, as well as 8
different flavored homemade sangrias, delicious specialty drinks &
martinis. Tuscan Tapas Happy hour is from 3 pm to 6 pm.
XSITE: PROMOTING SERVICE TO BENSALEM
XSITE (Extreme Service and Intergenerational Experience) will begin another cycle this Spring and is
looking for youth and adult partners in Bensalem to join.
XSITE has been a program of TODAY, Inc. and Building a Better Bensalem Together (B3T) for almost
six years. It is a unique opportunity for youth in Bensalem ages 13-15 to get involved in their community and meet
new friends. XSITE focuses on helping youth create positive bonds to adults in the community by having youth and
adults work cooperatively to solve problems and create projects.
The program is comprised of 8 weekly sessions based on topics such as decision making, teamwork, and
leadership. During each session, interactive projects are completed by the youth and adult partners and youth gain
valuable real-life skills essential for college, job interviews, high school service requirements, and other endeavors.
Adult volunteers have a unique opportunity to give back to the community in the form of their time and their life
experiences to pass along to today's youth in a positive and fun way.
Following the 8 weekly sessions, youth and adults team up to complete a community service project. This
“extreme service” allows youth to have a voice in the community and enables them to make meaningful service
contributions. Past projects have included the support and participation of the Family Movie Nights at the Bensalem
Township Amphitheatre (now known as the TD Bank Amphitheater), passing a smoke-free ordinance in Bensalem
with the help of the Mayor and Council, and creating signs for the Bensalem School District buses promoting bullyfree
living. The projects mentioned have left a lasting impression.
XSITE is a fun and unique way for youth and adults to get involved and have fun together in a healthy
atmosphere. Pizza is provided each week, incentives are given for participation, and all participants are recognized
publicly at a Bensalem Council meeting.
DECREASE IN CRIME - INCREASE IN POLICE SERVICES
The National Criminal Justice Association based out
of Washington, D.C., has reported a nationwide
increase in crime. In October 2008, CNN reported that
United States police departments are streamlining as
well as reducing training and cutting back on some
prevention programs as their budgets fall victim to the
struggling economy. USA Today reported that the
collapse of United States financial markets has forced
deep cuts in local police agencies causing fear among
police departments across the country that massive
home foreclosures may be responsible for bringing
more crime to the suburbs. However, in Bensalem
Township in 2008, we had an over 11% decrease in
crime; which was the highest decrease in the past five
years. In addition, we had our highest crime clearance
rates – we were able to make arrests and solve more
crimes in 2008 than in the last five years.
As police departments throughout the country feel
the impact of our struggling economy, Bensalem
Township continues to bring new initiatives, more
BENSALEM EMERGENCY
MANAGEMENT NEEDS YOUR HELP
As Bensalem Emergency Management continues to train and prepare for a variety
of incidents that our municipality might be faced with, we are asking for your help.
A tear out information sheet is included in this newsletter which will allow us to
identify the residents within our Township that have special needs and require special
assistance during times of crisis. These needs could include individuals with
disabilities, diabetes, mental health issues; or people that are on oxygen or need
special care when being evacuated; or need to have constant access during snow
emergencies.
In order to be better prepared and make sure that we can identify and contact all
our special needs residents during a crisis, we need to have any resident with special
needs fill out the information sheet and return it either in person or via mail to the
Bensalem. We have increased our patrols and maintain
an above standard patrol response to calls for service in
our community. We were able to accomplish this by
working as a cohesive team. Through proper budgeting,
we were able to increase our training which brings
valuable assets to the citizens of Bensalem Township.
We continue to seek out and obtain funding from a
variety of sources including both federal and state
grants.
The Bensalem Township Police Department not
only continues to be the “go to” police department in
Bucks County, but is also regarded as one of leading
agencies within the state of Pennsylvania.
In 2008, we were not only able to increase the size of
some of our specialty units such as K-9, but we were
able to add officers to multi-jurisdictional task forces,
allowing us to work with other agencies and state and
federal police departments to help better serve the
citizens of Bensalem Township.
