DiningWise 6 October 2006 Pomodoro’s Italian Grille “You gotta try ‘Grampy’s’ sauce. It’s been handed down at least four generations.” TThat’s what the patrons are saying as they’re walking out the door at Pomodoro’s Italian Grille in Wellington. Having been just taken over by new owners Stuart Rampone and Pam Manzi, Pomodoro’s Italian Grille was another one of those Italian restaurants that had a bad reputation for inconsistency. No wonder, with a pizza joint on every corner, it’s not surprising that most of them, for the most part, are average at best. Stuart and Pam want to change all that at Pomodoro’s Italian Grille. And they believe it’s going to start with “Grampy’s” sauce. They believe it’s also going to start with that personal touch. “All the big restaurant chains don’t have that personal touch,” according to Pam. “We’re not one of those big chains, and I think people who enjoy some special attention, or have a special request, will come to see us.” This was evident as we watched grandma and Pam visit each table. What Pam said made my wife and I reminisce about the days of when we owned our restaurant in Boca Raton. It reminded us of how much we loved to take care of people. To make them happy. To see them enjoy what we served. I think Grampy, and the kids have the right idea. The menu for the most part is By Chef Joe traditional Italian fare, (soon to be revamped). Consisting of pizza, pasta, paninis and parmigiana, my wife, son and I decided on some traditional dishes, of course. We ordered an antipasto salad, veal parmigiana and a large pizza with pepperoni and sausage. The antipasto was fresh, cold and flavorful. The veal was tender, and best of all, smothered in mozzarella and “Grampy’s” sauce. (Let’s give Grampy two thumbs up.) And the pizza according to my son, the mini food critic, was some of the best pizza he ever had. I would have to concur. From the looks of it also, some people have already figured it out, as one pizza after another went out the front door as we dined. The pie was crisp, flavorful, and supplied more than one “pizza burn” on the roof of our mouths. We couldn’t eat it fast enough, and we at the last two pieces in the car on the way home. — Headed for some big changes with some already accomplished, Pomodoro’s Italian Grille is at 12793 West Forest Hill Blvd. in Wellington.
