Electrostatic charging using ionization is often the most elegant and<br />

efficient way of accomplishing many physical tasks in handling paper and<br />

plastic films, webs and sheets. The users who design charging into their<br />

process seldom go back to mechanical means of accomplishing the same<br />

task.<br />

A charging generator and charge applicator make up an electrostatic<br />

charging system. A single charging system or a combination of two<br />

charging systems are used for “pinning” or “tacking” together sheets<br />

and webs of film or paper. Typical applications include manufacturing<br />

of binders, chill roll edge pinning on cast film lines, lamination, in-mold<br />

labeling (IML), plastic bag manufacturing, roll transfer, shrink wrapping<br />

and others.<br />

into magazines and catalogs in saddle stitchers and perfect bound lines,<br />

The ION Impact <strong>7306</strong> <strong>Charging</strong> <strong>Generator</strong> is a 30 kV, 5 mA solid-state<br />

microprocessor-based, quick set-up high voltage DC power supply for<br />

use with specified charge applicators. The <strong>7306</strong> <strong>Charging</strong> <strong>Generator</strong> is<br />

available in three versions:<br />

• With negative output voltage<br />

• With a positive output voltage<br />

• With outputs of both positive and negative polarities<br />

Using the multifunctional display and controls, the <strong>7306</strong> generator is easily<br />

set up to operate in the CONSTANT CURRENT mode, with timed charging<br />

action, output level alarms and remote output control features. In the<br />

CONSTANT CURRENT mode, the system maintains stable and strong<br />

pinning power even as the ambient conditions change or the ionizing<br />

electrodes get contaminated with time or the material’s properties vary.<br />

The <strong>7306</strong> generator can also operate in the Constant Voltage mode<br />

in applications where the load impedance changes and the charging<br />

system must provide the required stability.<br />

The <strong>7306</strong> can be fully integrated into a process for:<br />

• Remote activation of the high voltage output<br />

• Remote output voltage or charging current adjustment via a choice of<br />

10K pot, 4-20 mA or 0-10V-signal follower<br />

• Remote output voltage and charging current analog output signals<br />

• RS-485 communications<br />

A large, easy-to-read LED readout in the front panel of the generator<br />

displays both charging current and operating voltage, making it simple to<br />

adjust, monitor and control the static charging process.<br />

The <strong>7306</strong> generator is mounted using four holes located on two mounting<br />

flanges. The <strong>7306</strong> charging generator uses convenient twist-and-lock<br />

quick-disconnect high-voltage connectors for charge applicators, such<br />

as Ion model 7430 <strong>Charging</strong> Bar.<br />

The true value of the dual-polarity version of the <strong>7306</strong> is realized<br />

when a charging application requires two charge applicators, one<br />

positive and the other negative. Common dual polarity applications<br />

include electrostatic ribbon tacking on heatset printing presses, in-line<br />

finishing, and electrostatic magazine tacking on incline stackers where<br />

finished magazines pass between two 7430 Matrix Chargers and get<br />

electrostatically compressed for packaging in neat and strong bundles.<br />
