Interestingly, this percentage is greater in the smaller MAs than that found in their larger counterparts. This probably reflects the difficulty for women’s football to challenge the men’s game in the longer-established MAs. It could also reflect the key importance for smaller MAs to initiate programmes on behalf of international football governing bodies in funding specific positions for the development of women’s football.
