He studied at the Camberwell School of Art, followed by the Bath Academy of Art. He has served as a trustee of the Tate Gallery and the National Gallery and in 1992 was knighted. Hodgkin’s paintings and prints often refer to memories and private experiences, but deliberately avoid the figurative. Since the 1950s, he has made a substantial number of original prints and over the last 20 years has favoured the use of etching and aquatint combined with hand-painting. Home is one of a group of small etchings the artist made from 2000-2001 at 107 Workshop in Wiltshire. It is a classic composition of the artist’s oeuvre, built-up using layer upon layer of printed and hand-painted colour, finished with the motif that echoes the hand-painted frames which surround many of the paintings. £3,000 - £4,000 Donated by: Howard Hodgkin CH, CBE 48
