From the Principal’s Desk ...
… Paxtonia’s attendance rate thus
far this year is outstanding!

A special “thank you” to all the parent
volunteers who helped in January
with Bingo Nights, Ice Skating Parties,
and After School Clubs. Each event was
a huge success and enjoyed by all.
Remember, grades 3-5 will be taking
the PSSA Reading and Math tests March
13 – 20; 5 th grade will be taking the
PSSA Writing test April 16 - 20; and 4 th
grade will be taking the PSSA Science
test April 23 - 27. No Educational Trip
requests will be approved during the
PSSA testing dates.
Sometimes you might wonder why
the district is so “fussy” about attendance
(requiring notes, phone calls, etc.)
The answer is because we have to be!
Science Night is Soon & Science Night is 3D!!

P 2012 Science Night being held on Friday, February 10 th from
7:00 – 8:30pm. Come experience the new and improved Science
Night 3D. This year's Science Night has many new exciting exhibits
and experiments. Science Night is Fun - . Most exhibits have interactive
activities or actual demonstrations. Science Night is Cool –
Experiments that are Hands-on. Science Night is “sense”able - Come see, hear, taste,
touch and smell Science. If you would be interested in being an exhibitor or conducting
an experiment or have any contacts in the community of vendors or professionals
that may be interested in setting up an exhibit, please call me at 657-5717 or

Paxtonia Talent Show 2012
lease join us for 2 nights of entertainment performed by our
P very own Paxtonia students!!
Feel free to bring relatives and friends to enjoy the show.
We do ask that ALL children are directly accompanied by an adult.
The shows are Tuesday Feb 14th and Thursday Feb 16th.
Each show begins at 6:00 and will be held at CDMS in the auditorium.

The Federal mandate of the “No Child
Left Behind” law centers on academic
achievement and school attendance.
Just as a school can receive punitive
sanctions for poor achievement, the
same can occur for poor attendance
rates. Please keep your child in school
unless they are truly sick and provide
notes and doctor excuses when required.

et’s see, about one more month of
L winter weather… …not too bad!
We had many activities going
on this past month. The children continue
to enjoy After School Clubs.
Thank you to Sandy Kitchen, Debbie
Lovelidge, the Signores and all the people
teaching the classes. A big thank you
to the Bingo chairmen, Alison Long, Alison
Yarrish and Karen Parody and the
volunteers who worked on this two
night event to make is a success. It was
a fun event! Thank you to Natalie
Foxwell and Lisa Rummel for organizing
another successful Ice Skating Party and
thanks to the volunteers who help them
run the event -- fun was had by all!

After Schools Club Update

weeks we’ve had! Remember your child
is staying after school on Thursdays from
4 – 5 PM. Feb. 9 th is our last class (unless
we have a cancelation, then Feb. 16 th
will be our last class). Please be prompt

to high school seniors
The Paxtonia Elementary School PTA is
offering $2,000 in college scholarship
monies. Scholarships will range between
$200 and $500.
Scholarships are available to any senior
who attended at least fours years at
Paxtonia Elementary School.
Applications can be found in the guidance
office at CD High School, CD East
High School and Vo-tech Technical

Roller Skating
on’t miss all the fun!!!! Come join
D us at the upcoming Paxtonia PTA
roller skating party on Sunday, March
4 th . The roller skating party will be held
at Olympic Skating Rink in Enola from
4:30 – 6:30 pm. Admission to the roller
skating party will be $1.00 per person
(whether skating or not). Skate rental
is $1.00 and rollerblade rental is $3.00.
Adult supervision is required. If your
child is coming with another adult,
please remember to provide them with
a signed permission slip (flyers will
come home that week). For information

Hershey Park
Volunteers
axtonia PTA will be volunteering in
P the Games department at Hershey
Park…Spring time in the Park starts in
April/May.
A shift consists of 4 hours and for each
shift you “work” you will earn a day
pass to Hershey Park.

Here are some tips to make studying
more fun and interesting.

Write your vocabulary or spelling
words on index cards and than walk
laps around your house or apartment
saying the words aloud.
Act out or do charades to study for
that social studies test.
Quiz your family—ask them “Did
you know…..” and explain to them
about what you are learning in
school to review concepts.
Gather some friends together and
have teams compete with a “spelldown”
for your spelling words or
“round robin” with math flash
cards.
The more you incorporate different
styles of learning………
Visual—using imagery, pictures,
seeing
Auditory—listening, making up jingles,
reading aloud
Tactile/Kinesthetic—hands on
learning, building, moving around
………….the more fun you will have
learning!

February 5! There is no need to register

also encouraged to support our school by

that help our students learn, play
and have fun. You can donate points

drop your bottle caps and box flaps in the
Coke Rewards box in the lobby. If you

greatly appreciate it if the Box Tops were
trimmed to the dashed lines. This will
save time and allow us to get more Box
