The basic concepts <strong>of</strong> statistics; Descriptive statistics, Measures <strong>of</strong> central tendency; Measures <strong>of</strong><br />

dispersion; Statistical distributions; Binomial distribution, Poisson distribution, Normal distribution,<br />

standard normal distribution; Correlation coefficient, regression coefficients, regression equation,<br />

regression line, determination coefficient; Sampling distributions; Hypothesis testing, hypotheses,<br />

test statistics, Type I and Type II errors, one- and two tailed tests; Z-distribution and hypothesis<br />

testing; t-distribution and hypothesis testing; Confidence intervals; Chi-square distribution, test <strong>of</strong><br />

homogeneity, tests <strong>of</strong> goodness-<strong>of</strong>-fit, test <strong>of</strong> independence, F-distribution, analysis <strong>of</strong> variance<br />

Distribution <strong>of</strong> medicinal plants according to the phylogenetics system, their general features,<br />

usages, drugs obtained from them, major active substances and their effects are examined. In<br />

addition, Flora <strong>of</strong> Turkey is also introduced. Poisonous plants, economical plants and the ones used in<br />

traditional medicine are also within the scope <strong>of</strong> the lecture. Under this scope, the main titles are:<br />

Nomenclature <strong>of</strong> Plants and Drugs, Classification <strong>of</strong> Plants, Bacteriophyta, Phycophyta, Mycophyta,<br />

Pteridophyta, Spermatophyta, Gymnospermae, Angiospermae, Monocotyledonae, Dicotyledonae,<br />

Apetalae, Dialypetalae, Sympetalae.<br />

(ECZ154) PHARMACEUTICAL BOTANY (P)<br />

HOUR /WEEK :4, ECTS:4<br />

Leaves and other organs <strong>of</strong> plants that are used in the treatment; and also specimens belonging to<br />

lichens, mushrooms (fungi), pteridophytes and conifers are examined. The morphological and<br />

anatomical structures <strong>of</strong> the organs like leaf, cortex, radix, fruit and flower <strong>of</strong> the plants used in the<br />

treatment are examined. The examination <strong>of</strong> the characteristic elements <strong>of</strong> herbal teas and<br />

powdered drugs by means <strong>of</strong> microscope are within the scope <strong>of</strong> this lecture. Under this scope the<br />

main titles are; Leaf morphology, Microscopically Analysis <strong>of</strong> Starches, Lichens, Pteridophyta, Cross-<br />

Section and Powdered Drug Analysis <strong>of</strong> Leaf, Cross-Section and Powdered Drug Analysis <strong>of</strong><br />

Underground Parts, Cross-Section and Powdered Drug Analysis <strong>of</strong> Cortex, Flower Morphology,<br />

Microscopically Analysis <strong>of</strong> Herbal Teas, Microscopically Analysis <strong>of</strong> Narcotic Herbs.<br />
