7 Putting this <strong>Roadmap</strong> in place<br />

This <strong>Roadmap</strong> has been approved by the Minister of<br />

RS&T who will retain stewardship of the <strong>Roadmap</strong><br />

<strong>and</strong>, supported by MoRST, will ensure the directions<br />

are communicated <strong>and</strong> actions taken where<br />

appropriate.<br />

The Minister of RS&T will instruct FRST <strong>and</strong> the<br />

HRC to take account of the relevant directions in the<br />

<strong>Roadmap</strong> in their future investment decisions. MoRST<br />

will work with FRST <strong>and</strong> the HRC to develop an<br />

implementation plan.<br />

The Minister of RS&T will encourage organisations<br />

in the wider science system to take account of the<br />

directions in the <strong>Roadmap</strong>.<br />

MoRST will maintain leadership for coordinating<br />

policy development <strong>and</strong> strategic activity to ensure<br />

responsible management <strong>and</strong> development of<br />

biotechnology research in New Zeal<strong>and</strong>.<br />

This <strong>Roadmap</strong> is a statement of the government’s<br />

position on biotechnology research in New Zeal<strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>and</strong> is expected to remain current for 5-10 years. It is,<br />

however, inevitable that unforeseen developments <strong>and</strong><br />

events will occur <strong>and</strong> that some of these may in time<br />

alter the outlook of the <strong>Roadmap</strong>.<br />

MoRST will maintain oversight of the <strong>Roadmap</strong>,<br />

advising the Minister of RS&T on the progress of<br />

implementation as well as the ongoing relevance of its<br />

directions. MoRST will maintain a <strong>Roadmap</strong> advisory<br />

group to provide feedback on progress <strong>and</strong> arising<br />

issues. The Minister of RS&T will consider the need<br />

for an update to the <strong>Biotechnology</strong> <strong>Research</strong> <strong>Roadmap</strong><br />

by 2011.<br />
