4.1 Run awareness on <strong>HIV</strong>/<strong>AIDS</strong> or <strong>STIs</strong> in the school or community<br />
Resources: None<br />
a. Introduction: (5 mins)<br />
Say, “Before you run awareness for your school or community you need <strong>to</strong> know<br />
what they know and what they want <strong>to</strong> find out about <strong>HIV</strong>/<strong>AIDS</strong>.” Ask students <strong>to</strong><br />
discuss in pairs this question:<br />
“How could you find out what your community knows about <strong>HIV</strong>/<strong>AIDS</strong>”<br />
b. Main Activity: (45 mins)<br />
Say, “You are going <strong>to</strong> carry out awareness for your community in one area <strong>of</strong> this<br />
course. For example, you could run awareness on ABC or on stigma and<br />
discrimination or on Home Based Care. You will work in pairs or threes <strong>to</strong> plan and<br />
run the awareness.” Put this simple template on the board<br />
1) Who will you run awareness for Our target group is…<br />
2) How will we find out what they know Our needs analysis is…<br />
3) Which <strong>to</strong>pic will we run awareness on Our message will be…<br />
4) How will we share this information Our method will be…<br />
5) When will we do this<br />
6) How will we know we have made an impact<br />
7) Who will we need <strong>to</strong> speak <strong>to</strong> before doing the awareness What will we need <strong>to</strong><br />
prepare<br />
In pairs or threes students use this plan <strong>to</strong> prepare their awareness. Once you<br />
approve their plan for self study they can carry the awareness out and report back <strong>to</strong><br />
you. This should be an assessment task.<br />
