Seamus de Brun's lifelong service to
Ireland and her culture was
celebrated at Tion61 Leo Rowsome
2002. Collegues and friends gathered
from near and far to pay tribute to
this exceptional Gael. The setting was
Culturlann na hEireann which
epitomised all that Seamus held near
and dear in his cultural endeavours.
Seam us, current Trustee-General and
former Uachtanin of Comhaltas, was
joined by his family Mairfn, Tadhg and
Finian for what was a gala occasion.
Minister Eamonn 6 Cuiv, TO and
Senator Labhras 6 Murchu paid
glowing tributes to 'a colleague, friend
and mentor' who had left an indelible
mark on the cultural life of the
nation. Seam us, who was also a
former Senator, served his country in
many ways and his love of the Irish
language, music, song, dance and
games was central to his life and that
of his family. His late wife Brfd also
worked tirelessly for Ireland and she
was recalled with affection at the
memorable occasion at the
Culturlann.
Musicians, singers and dancers all paid
tribute to Seamus and his family. The
choir from Co. na Gaillimhe wer aweinspiring.
Ciaran Mac Mathuna related
a number of interesting and amusing
anecdotes when recalling the life and
times of Seamus de Brun. Bill McEvoy,
Padraig 6 Riain, Seamus Mac Mathuna
and Padraig 6 Oufaigh also brought
us down b6ithrin na smaointe while
treated us to a
virtuoso
performance on
the fiddle.
Helena Rowsome­
Grimes,
representing the
Rowsome family,
spoke of her
23
