traditional performers Liam Farrell
from Tyrone on banjo and Joe
Whelan from Offaly on button
accordion, along with young
Roscommon flute player James
Carty and the piano
accompaniment of London's
Reg Hall.
Liam has, of course, had a long
association with Comhaltas,
having joined many of our tours
over the years and he is still in the
mainstream of Irish traditional
music in London.
The booklet with the CD contains
extensive notes and photographs
reflecting the background to these
recordings.
The recordings provide a window
on a part of the current Irish
traditional music scene in London.
The music has been gleaned from
years of playing alongside some of
the great names in traditional music
who came to London from all over
Ireland to live, work and, in their
spare time, play music.
Liam Farrell and Joe Whelan play an
eclectic mixture of reels, jigs,
hornpipes, polkas and waltzes.
be the well known ones,
others are named (in timehonoured
fashion) after the
musicians they learned them from,
while some are just remembered
by the place where they were first
heard.As one noted musician said,
'If you know the titles of every tune
you play they you don't know
enough tunes!'
