In circumstances where you have a Howdens’ branded kitchen and need to make a claim under this 

guarantee, please contact your local depot who will be able to help you through the process. 

Lamona Appliance 2 Year Guarantee 

All Lamona appliances and a selection of unbranded appliances come with a 2 year manufacturer’s 

guarantee from date of purchase and what we believe is the best after-sales service in the UK. All 

Lamona ovens also include a 5 year guarantee on door glass. In the unlikely event you need to make a 

claim, you will need your proof of purchase and to contact your local depot who will be able to help you 

through the process. 

Lighting 2 Year Guarantee 

All lighting comes with a 2 year manufacturer’s guarantee* 2 . In the unlikely event of a defect in 

manufacturing or raw materials, we will happily replace any lighting product promptly and without charge.

Your Kitchen 

In order to create a well organised, functional kitchen, take some time to 

think about the style of kitchen you want and the steps below. 

Step 1: What will you use your kitchen for 

The kitchen is the heart of the home. How you use the space will depend on 

your individual preferences and lifestyle. For example, your kitchen will be 

both the focal point and functional centre of your home. You may want to 

entertain as well as cook, relax or work. Your kitchen could also be the area 

where other domestic chores are carried out, including washing and cleaning. 

Step 2: How much available space do you have 

Whether you are replacing an existing kitchen or extending your room, the 

available space will determine the shape of your kitchen and the right design 

will maximise it. 

Step 3: What type of layout would you like 

The ‘working triangle’ concept is an established method of kitchen planning. 

The cooking area, refrigeration and sink are positioned to form a triangle to 

create optimal working space, and this can be extended further to include a 

food preparation area. 

All kitchens tend to have one of four basic layouts. They can be Galley or 

Linear, but most are L-Shaped or U-Shaped and may feature an island 

unit. A good kitchen design correctly allocates each working area within 

the chosen shape to result in a well organised, functional kitchen.

your perfect kitchen. This interactive guide enables you to get a feel for how 

different colours work with each other, all against an illustrated Howdens kitchen.

CAD Planning & Design Service 

Howdens Joinery offers a free CAD planning and design service. Contact your local trade professional who will arrange for one of our designers 

to come out and measure your kitchen. They will discuss your requirements and our complete offering of appliances, sinks, taps, worktops, 

flooring, accessories and joinery. 

We will then plan your kitchen, which will include a 3D plan as well as a walkthrough video. This can be sent to you via email, so that you can 

share your new kitchen design with friends and family.

Linear 

This room can be very compact yet still allow for a good amount of 

work surface and storage space if planned efficiently. With extra tall 

wall units, the use of space is maximised. 

L - Shaped 

This room provides plenty of wall and base storage, with space for 

plate racks and a large cooking area. It usually includes a large corner 

unit and can also feature an island unit. 

Galley 

This room can suffer from a lack of storage as there is limited space 

for both wall and base units. Larder units and pan drawers are a useful 

option to provide extra storage. 

U - Shaped 

This room offers a large amount of workspace and storage space, however 

if too many wall units are used, it can feel quite enclosed. With the addition 

of wicker baskets and open wall units, storage becomes an open feature.

thrive in our depots and manufacturing facilities. 

Each year, we manufacture around 3.5 million cabinets, 2 million kitchen 

frontals and 800,000 worktops and breakfast bars in our two purpose-built, 

state-of-the-art manufacturing sites in Howden, East Yorkshire and Runcorn, 

Cheshire. We also have a large distribution centre in Northampton and 

collectively these three sites cover 6.6 million square feet. 

The UK manufacturing link does not stop there. The trees used to make 

the chipboard are grown and harvested in the UK, mainly in forests in 

Northumberland, Scotland and Wales. They are then turned into FSC® 

certified chipboard in the UK by EGGER and Kronospan. 

Over 40% of Howdens products are manufactured in the UK, including all of 

our cabinets, laminate worktops, breakfast bars, upstands, backboards, and 

a selection of our kitchen frontals and joinery products. 

We use around 200,000m 3 of chipboard each year. 

Our factories manufacture 800,000 worktops and breakfast bars each year.

Howdens Joinery & The Environment 

All our manufacturing, distribution and warehousing sites have achieved ISO 14001 certification for environmental management. 

Over 95% of our manufacturing waste is recycled each year. One element of waste from the manufacturing process is sawdust, which is recycled to heat our factories. 

Howdens sets challenging targets to ensure that 100% of wood based product used in our manufacturing processes comes from certified sources. 

We work closely with our suppliers to ensure that the items we purchase come from sustainable renewable resources and are produced in a socially responsible way. Howdens Joinery has successfully 

achieved the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) Chain of Custody certificates, which apply to a number of products as indicated 

in this brochure. The Chain of Custody certification means there is an unbroken and documented chain of ownership all the way from the forest, via the mill, the importer, the manufacturer and supplier to the 

end user. Our full environmental policy is available on request.

Howdens’ 5-0 team 

In Northampton, where Howdens’ National Distribution Centre (NDC) is based, an annual summer event attracts more than 1,000 

people. Throughout the day, 39 teams compete in The Rotary Club of Northampton Dragon Boat Festival, in a race over 250 yards. 

Howdens entered five teams, and through individual sponsorship and donations, raised a total of £4,000 for the Warwickshire and 

Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, with the overall winners being ‘Howdens 5-0’ from the NDC warehouse. 

Claire Cook from Howdens’ Consett depot 

One of Howdens’ more energetic employees is Claire Cook, of the Consett depot in County Durham. Claire signed up for the Great 

North Run to raise money for Leonard Cheshire Disability, a national charity supporting disabled people. When the charity asked 

for volunteers to take on its Tri Together London triathlon, her manager, Julie Bywater, put Claire forward. She rose to the challenge, 

swimming, cycling, and running the final stage into Crystal Palace stadium – which she described as “total euphoria”. 

John Worthington and staff 

St Francis House Children’s Hospice in Didsbury, Manchester provides a home from home for families with children who have a 

life-threatening or life-limiting condition. The depot manager at Howdens in Stockport, John Worthington, installed a custom made 

donation box in the depot. John’s customers kindly donated clothes and shoes, quickly helping to raise over £500 for the hospice. 

Scunthorpe RUFC 

In his spare time, Ian Lee, Supply Manufacturing Group Leader at Howdens’ manufacturing site in Howden, East Yorkshire, is a keen 

rugby player. He manages the development squad at Scunthorpe Rugby Club, where students from 18 upwards play in the Yorkshire 

RFU Championship. Match-day supplies, travel and equipment are costly, so Ian arranged £500 in sponsorship from Howdens – 

and now his lads are climbing the league table.

Howdens has been involved for many years with The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), the national organisation for 

construction training in the UK. In particular, the Howden Joinery Bursary funds the first year’s wages for apprentice joiners, enabling 

them to work in companies that couldn’t otherwise afford to take them on. Through the bursary, Horndean Carpentry & Building 

Services, in Waterlooville, Hampshire, has recently taken on Joshua Blythman, as well as James Hayes who is now an apprentice 

carpenter with DM Habens Ltd (the Builders) of Hampshire. 

Chris Pennington from Howdens’ Chatham depot 

The triathlon is the favourite event of Chris Pennington, Depot Manager at Howdens in Chatham, Kent, who’s competed several times 

in the London Triathlon. Over 13,000 triathletes of all ages and abilities take part each year, and Chris does the ‘Olympic distance’, 

swimming 1,500 metres, cycling 40 kilometres and running 10 kilometres. So far, he’s raised more than £1,500 for two charities: 

Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, helping those with conditions he lost his father and a good friend to.

Around the country, a huge variety of dedicated services offer support to people with different kinds of additional needs. One 

example is Little Miracles, a support group in Peterborough for children with additional needs or disabilities. Adrian Knight, who 

works in IT for Howdens, was keen to help: his wife Yani is involved with the centre, and they have a disabled son who attends 

sessions there. He arranged for the Howdens’ Peterborough North depot to donate a new kitchen, complete with appliances, fixtures 

and fittings, forming part of an amazing transformation to the existing structure.

At the Phoenix Youth Centre in Daventry, over 170 young people take part in a wide range of activities, and receive help with 

problems relating to drugs, alcohol and relationships. The centre also runs food awareness and cookery courses. Until recently, very 

poor facilities made this difficult. But a new kitchen – with cabinets, worktops and appliances donated by Howdens, and installed by 

Vice President and Chairman, Colin Smith, has improved the classes dramatically.

In Doncaster, there’s a football team with a very unusual name: the Manchester United Supporters Club! It’s been competing for 

more than 20 years, and Gaz Davies, an account holder at Howdens in Worksop, is a committed member of the squad. The depot 

has made donations to help buy new kit – and, to say thank you, the team made sure the t-shirts feature the Howdens Joinery logo.

Worktops 

Performance and appearance are equally important in a worktop, which 

needs to stand up to a variety of uses whilst complementing your 

kitchen frontal. 

A range of attractive and durable laminates are available in 38mm 

and 28mm thicknesses. 38mm are available in a choice of gloss, matt, 

smooth and textured finishes and in bullnose and square edged profiles. 

Solid wood worktops are available to create a premium finish for your 

kitchen in 40mm and 27mm thicknesses. 

The majority of Howdens worktops are 616mm deep which allows for a 

deeper overhang. 

All worktops come with a 1 year manufacturer’s guarantee. In the unlikely 

event of a defect in manufacturing or raw materials, we will happily 

replace any worktop promptly and without charge.

The upper heating element is used independently to give concentrated top heat. It is advisable to 

use this facility for no more than 15 minutes, towards the end of cooking.

There are many factors to consider when choosing an internal door. How it looks is obviously essential; the material it is made from, the style of panelling, whether it is glazed and the type of glazing. You will 

also want to think about how easy it is to maintain and how well it will stand up to the test of time. And of course, you will want to make sure it fits within your budget. 

In the Howdens range, there is sure to be an internal door that meets all your requirements exactly. We offer a range of moulded, stile & rail, softwood, hardwood, flush and sliding wardrobe doors. Our choice 

of internal doors is designed for both traditional and contemporary interiors. Glazed doors are another option, with all glass toughened to BS 6206, BS EN 12600 or BS EN 12150. Fire resistant doors are

A great deal is expected of an external door. It has to create a good first impression when you enter a property, and with Howdens you can do this in contemporary style or with a historically accurate 

design. You may also want to let in natural daylight – if so, we have a variety of pre-glazed doors. You can decorate our doors however you want: we make them ready for all kinds of paint and stain finishes. 

We also offer doors in a range of materials. Each involves different types of maintenance, and they are all designed to withstand the elements. 

Security is another issue: your door must resist impact, and should have the right hardware to keep unwanted visitors out. You will also want effective insulation, to block draughts and prevent heat escaping.

With 23 different styles and finishes, the bathroom cabinet range provides 

an extensive choice from traditional timber wood grain effect doors to 

modern gloss doors. 

Howdens bathroom cabinetry range uses our rigid factory assembled 

cabinets to create vanity units, cistern units and a variety of other storage 

solutions. Curved units provide contemporary style, add character and 

functionality with towel racks, and complete the fitted look with a choice of 

decorative accessories. 

A contemporary finish can be achieved with wall hung cabinets or stainless 

steel decorative legs. 

Choose from a wide variety of handles and worktops and finish with a 

specifically designed laminate flooring to suit a bathroom environment.

trade customers from stock. When professionally installed in the home, these 

products will provide many years of reliable use. 

In the unlikely event of a problem occurring with our kitchen or bathroom 

cabinetry as a result of a defect in the manufacturing process or raw 

materials, we will happily, promptly and without charge, replace any cabinet 

(excluding frontals) for a period of within 25 years from the date of its 

installation in the UK and any frontal * for a period of within 5 years from 

the date of its installation in the UK. In circumstances where you have a
