specific information on a topic.
Advanced: Knowledgeable and skilled in an area. Workshops are more like continuing
education courses, where specialized knowledge is shared.
ALTERNATIVE CONSTRUCTION
& GREEN BUILDING
1. Above the Ceiling Behind the Walls: Hands-on demo
to show energy loss in a house. Retrofit measures
are discussed and installed helping home owners/
contractors do the work safely and correctly.

2. Alternative Housing - A Lifestyle: This workshop
will look more at why we build than how we build.
It will help you bring together your thoughts and
desires. It will bring the spirit into building and
help you see what you may be trying to get out

3. Build with Architecture of Trees: Curious about
natural building Come listen to Roald Gundersen
discuss small-diameter trees for building. Learn

4. Building High Performance ICF Homes: Using ICFs to
create some of the most comfortable, affordable,
sustainable, and energy efficient homes available

5. Comparative Energy Performance of Natural Wall
Systems: Come to a presentation and discussion on
the insulating and thermal storage values of wall
assemblies built with natural building materials
such as straw bale, compressed-earth block, cob,
and straw-clay. (Beginner, Intermediate) Dan

6. Compressed Earth Wall Systems: Compressed earth
blocks can be incorporated into both new and
existing structures to provide thermal mass heat
storage. This workshop will cover wall design,
insulating options, and construction techniques.

7. Cordwood Construction Best Practices: Learn about
cordwood home construction. Cordwood homes
in Wisconsin and Minnesota will be featured

8. Cordwood Masonry: Learn and discuss some basic
considerations of cordwood masonry including
styles of construction and “special effects.”
