Green Home Pavilion<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Energy</strong> Fair features <strong>the</strong> fourth annual<br />

Green Home Pavilion. It’s now easier than ever<br />

<strong>to</strong> find sustainable resources for your home.<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Energy</strong> Fair has set aside this special area<br />

<strong>to</strong> help homeowners and future home buyers<br />

discover ways <strong>to</strong> make <strong>the</strong>ir house a “home<br />

sweet sustainable home.”<br />

<strong>The</strong> Green Home Pavilion provides an<br />

opportunity <strong>to</strong> see what products are currently<br />

available <strong>to</strong> create a healthy, green home. You<br />

can also learn about building techniques and<br />

design <strong>to</strong> make your home more energy efficient<br />

<strong>to</strong> save money and <strong>the</strong> planet.<br />

Visit exhibi<strong>to</strong>rs featuring green building<br />

materials, energy efficient appliances, and<br />

sustainable products. Connect with o<strong>the</strong>rs who<br />

have experimented with alternative building<br />

materials such as straw bale, whole trees, and<br />

Workshops highlight sustainable building<br />

techniques, healthy green homes, and ways <strong>to</strong><br />

improve existing homes. See <strong>the</strong> complete list<br />

Building Demonstrations<br />

Ever wonder what a straw bale wall actually<br />

looks like Or would you like <strong>to</strong> see how <strong>to</strong><br />

put <strong>to</strong>ge<strong>the</strong>r an ear<strong>the</strong>n clay wall Based on<br />

last year’s success, we will once again feature<br />

green building demonstrations throughout <strong>the</strong><br />

weekend. You never know what you’ll find in<br />

<strong>the</strong> Green Home Pavilion. Here is a list of a few<br />

specific scheduled demonstrations:<br />

Straw Bale Wall Demonstration<br />

Friday, 11:00 a.m.<br />

Saturday, 1:00 p.m.<br />

See <strong>the</strong> guts of a straw bale wall construction,<br />

and watch a wall be built throughout <strong>the</strong><br />

weekend. Hands-on demonstration will be<br />

led by Mark Morgan of Bearpaw Design and<br />

Construction. Don’t miss workshop #24, Straw<br />

Bale Construction in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Midwest</strong>, offered prior<br />

<strong>to</strong> each of <strong>the</strong>se hands-on demonstrations<br />

(Friday, 10:00 a.m. and Saturday, 12:00 p.m.)<br />

in <strong>the</strong> Green Home Pavilion.<br />

Light Straw-Clay Demonstration<br />

Friday, 1:00 p.m.<br />

Saturday, 2:00 p.m.<br />

Learn how <strong>the</strong> straw-clay wall structures are<br />

mixed, built, and dried in <strong>the</strong>se two hands-on<br />

demonstrations. Demonstration will be led by<br />

Lou Host-Jablonski of Design Coalition and<br />

Douglas Piltingsrud of Sustainable Housing<br />

Building Part 1: High Performance Natural<br />

<strong>Midwest</strong>ern Homes (Friday, 12:00 p.m. and<br />

Saturday, 11:00 a.m.) and #13 Green Building<br />

Part 2: Light Straw-Clay Insulation (Saturday,<br />

12:00 p.m.) offered prior <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> hands-on<br />
