Environmentalist, entrepreneur, and writer and<br />

direc<strong>to</strong>r of Who Killed <strong>the</strong> Electric Car<br />

Chris Paine’s award-winning documentary<br />

feature film, Who Killed <strong>the</strong> Electric Car<br />

premiered at <strong>the</strong> Sundance Film Festival in 2006<br />

before its release by Sony Pictures Classics, and<br />

went on <strong>to</strong> become one of <strong>the</strong> most successful<br />

documentaries of <strong>the</strong> last five years. Revenge of<br />

<strong>the</strong> Electric Car is his latest film.<br />

Previously, Chris served as executive producer<br />

on FASTER, Mark Neale’s 2003 cult film (with<br />

narra<strong>to</strong>r Ewan McGregor) about <strong>the</strong> world’s<br />

fastest mo<strong>to</strong>rcycle race. <strong>The</strong> same team also made<br />

No Maps For <strong>The</strong>se Terri<strong>to</strong>ries about cyber-punk<br />

visionary William Gibson. No Maps featured U2’s<br />

Bono and was named Best Documentary by <strong>the</strong><br />

Los Angeles New Times in 2001.<br />

Chris has appeared on <strong>The</strong> Daily Show with<br />

Jon Stewart, Nightline, ABC World News<br />

Tonight, Democracy Now, and Science Friday on<br />

NPR. He has <strong>to</strong>ured nationally <strong>to</strong> speak about<br />

electric cars and sustainable transportation<br />

at international venues including Prince<strong>to</strong>n,<br />

Brown, Stanford, <strong>the</strong> Mat<strong>the</strong>w Shepard<br />

Symposium on Social Justice, <strong>the</strong> James Baker III<br />

Institute in Hous<strong>to</strong>n, Google, and more.<br />

During his keynote address at <strong>The</strong> <strong>Energy</strong> Fair,<br />

Chris will discuss <strong>the</strong> politics, personalities,<br />

and cold hard cash reasons for <strong>the</strong> return of<br />

<strong>the</strong> electric car. He will share his role as <strong>the</strong><br />

filmmaker who caught GM and o<strong>the</strong>rs destroying<br />

thousands of this “disruptive technology” in<br />

2003. Seven years later, he’s documenting <strong>the</strong><br />

incredible return of electric cars for his 2011<br />

documentary Revenge of <strong>the</strong> Electric Car. His<br />

presentation will recap <strong>the</strong> challenges and chart<br />

<strong>the</strong> A <strong>to</strong> Z reasons for <strong>the</strong>ir comeback.<br />

CENTRAL WISCONSIN RESILIENCY<br />

PROJECT PANEL DISCUSSION<br />

We are pleased <strong>to</strong> continue our tradition of<br />

promoting successful community projects and<br />

groups from central Wisconsin. On Sunday, June<br />

19, we will present a keynote panel discussion<br />

on <strong>the</strong> formation and implementation of <strong>the</strong><br />

Central Wisconsin Resiliency Project.<br />

Using principles from <strong>the</strong> Natural Step<br />

framework, AmeriCorps members in <strong>the</strong><br />

Central Wisconsin Resiliency Project work with<br />

volunteers, local government staff, and area<br />

non-profit organizations <strong>to</strong> address a range of<br />

sustainability issues. <strong>The</strong> Project’s mission is <strong>to</strong><br />

identify and foster cooperative efforts in central<br />

Wisconsin aimed at creating an environmentally,<br />

socially, and economically secure future. <strong>The</strong><br />

Project will accomplish this mission through<br />

community development focused on food, energy,<br />

ecosystems, waste, and water.<br />

In 2010-2011, <strong>the</strong> Central Wisconsin Resiliency<br />

Project will engage 29 AmeriCorps members in<br />

sustainability work through a mix of full-time,<br />

part-time and seasonal positions. AmeriCorps<br />

provides a vehicle for identifying, training, and<br />

deploying community organizers, educa<strong>to</strong>rs, and<br />

leaders who can marshal volunteers and mobilize<br />

community assets <strong>to</strong> accomplish seemingly<br />

impossible tasks.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Project’s headquarters are located at <strong>the</strong><br />

former Jackson School, but <strong>the</strong> majority of<br />

AmeriCorps members serve at placement<br />

sites across central Wisconsin, including local<br />

governments and area non-profits.<br />
