<strong>Mercury</strong> in the soil<br />

• Over 95% of the mercury entering the soil can be<br />

retented or fixed by soil. Clay minerals and<br />

organic matter in the soil have strong absorption<br />

toward mercury. Thus, mercury accumulates<br />

easily in the surface of soil.<br />
