Mitchell, S.D., offers a unique college atmosphere to students
who attend Dakota Wesleyan University. The continually growing
city of roughly 15,000 people packages the feel of a close-knit
community into a city with endless resources for shopping,
entertainment and recreation.
Expanding commercial districts on the north and south ends
of town combine with Mitchell’s historic Main Street to provide
ample opportunities for shopping, dining, hotels and night life, as
well as job opportunities that value students’ talents and abilities.
Sioux Falls, just a 60-minute drive east on I-90, offers even more
big-city amenities to students and their families.
The city has both a state-of-the-art movie theatre and a drive-in
open during the warm-weather months, along with endless
opportunities for outdoor recreation. Mitchell is home to two 18-
hole golf courses, indoor and outdoor swimming pool facilities,
tennis courts, athletic fields, a hockey arena and numerous
recreation and fitness centers. Lake Mitchell provides boating,
swimming, fishing and camping opportunities, and the
surrounding area is well-known for its world-class pheasant
hunting.
Mitchell is known for the World’s Only Corn Palace, but this
South Dakota community has plenty to offer its college
students.
