Download from the internet
Access a world of media from the internet
You may not think that downloading files
and media on a Samsung device is an
important activity, but there are many
times when being able to do so can save
you time and also add to the flexibility
you enjoy on a daily basis. Whether it is
grabbing a quick image from a web page
or downloading an app that someone
wants to share with you, it can all be done
in an instant provided you have the right
settings enabled and a browser capable of
allowing such tasks. We will show you how
to set up your device to enable a wide range
of downloads and also how to undertake
each type of download, but the real surprise
will come later when you realise just how
useful this knowledge is. Galaxy devices are
computers and can be used in similar ways
to desktops despite the fact that they can be
carried around with you. Android adds to this
flexibility because it gives you all of the tools
you need to add media to your device and to
then use it in ways that will make your device
even more useful to you.
1: Web images
On any web page where you see an image
that you like, you should be able to hold your
finger on the image until a new dialogue
pops up. You can now save the image to your
device or open it in a new window. It saves to
the Gallery.
2: Download apps
If a developer or an authorised person wants
to share an app with you some changes will
be needed. Go to Settings>Security and then
look for the ‘Unknown sources’ option. When
ticked you will be able to download apps (.apk
files) from sources besides Google Play.
3: Installing apps
When you download apps, you need to
be very careful. You should be happy that
the source is legitimate, that the file is free
to download and that it is free of malware.
Always check every part before putting your
valuable personal data and device at risk.
4: In one place
You will see an icon on your home screen
called ‘Downloads’. Tap this and you’ll be able
to see every file that you have downloaded
broken down by time. It also divides internet
and other downloads into separate panels to
speed things up if you download lots of files.
5: Automatic app compatibility
To use the files you have downloaded, you
will often be able to simply tap them and
choose the appropriate app from the panel
that pops up or you will be able to select the
file within an app. Sometimes they may need
to be moved to a specific folder.
