Browsing
Surf the internet with ease on your smartphone or tablet
The Android operating system is designed
to be as open as possible and with this
comes a mobile browsing experience that
is as flexible and complete as you could
hope for. Historically, mobile web browsers
have been limited, and even with modern
smartphones people have struggled to
adjust to the capabilities of modern-day
browsing on Android. This is partly because
of a lack of awareness and also because the
stock browsers that come with many devices
lack all of the features we are going to teach
you how to use.
We have reached the stage with Android
browsing that you can in theory do almost
everything you can on a desktop and thus
greatly increase the versatility your device
offers. You can view many pages at the
same time and keep them open at specific
points, you can download various file types
and as much media as your device can hold,
and you can also fill in web forms without
actually having to fill them in. No matter
what your needs there are many alternative
browsers available for you to try for free
and bookmarking all of your favourites can
literally be done in under a second for each
page. In real-time you can share your open
tabs using a Google account and all of this is
just the tip of the ever more flexible Android
browsing iceberg.
Once you start using these advanced
features you will be able to explore more
options and push your device as hard as you
can in a variety of different ways. The trick,
however, is to find a set of solutions that
work perfectly for you and to try to stick with
them – it is easy to keep experimenting, but
this rarely saves you any time. Remember
that Android is only limited by your
imagination and that the internet is a crucial
part of any modern mobile device.
Without the internet a smartphone or
tablet is not even 10 per cent as useful
so you may as well take full advantage of
what is available to you. It’s time to start
understand just how powerful your internetconnected
mobile device can be.
Surf the internet with tabs Use tabs to speed up your browsing
Use the icon
When viewing a web page in the
Chrome browser you will see a small
icon in the top right-hand corner.
This is the key to using tabs when
browsing on a Samsung device. Tap it
to proceed to step 2.
The second tab
Tap the option at the top ‘+ New tab’
and then enter a web address or start
a search as normal. When you tap the
top-right icon again each of the open
tabs will be displayed in a column for
easy navigation.
Delete a tab
You can jump between pages by
tapping any in the column and you
can remove a tab by simply tapping,
holding and then sliding it off the
screen to the left. The remaining tabs
will take its place.
