Keep your device free of viruses
Install and use Lookout, the mother of all Samsung Galaxy security apps
If you’re after an app that takes care of all
your smartphone security worries, look no
further than Lookout. Smartphones and
tablets have evolved into such powerful
devices that they now require protection
from threats such as viruses, malware and
spyware. This is especially true seeing as we
pour our whole lives into the little gadgets,
feeding our personal information into them
without really knowing that it’s safe.
Lookout works to protect your device
and ward off any viruses by scanning your
emails, attachments and downloads and by
blocking any dodgy web pages. It also takes
care of your personal details by keeping tabs
on every app that has access to your personal
information. But that’s not all. If you opt for
the Premium edition (costing around £19/$30
per year) Lookout can also help you locate
your device if you lose it, and can also call
it, lock it, reset it and wipe it. There’s even
a feature that snaps a photo of the person
trying to gain access to your phone and
emails it to you, so you can catch the culprit.
Using Lookout Download, install and get protected
1: Your security hub
At the top of the Lookout home screen you
can scroll through updates of what the app
has been doing in the background. Tap the
Security option on the home screen to scan
your apps, check there’s nothing malicious
and view the results of previous scans.
2: Backup your essentials
Lookout’s Backup facility will perform
scheduled backups of your contacts and save
them to Lookout.com, but hit the Back Up
Now button to perform a backup right away.
You can also back up all your photos and call
history by tapping on the Enable buttons.
3: Find missing devices
This option shows you the location of your
device, which is also accessible by logging on
to Lookout.com from a computer. There are
other helpful features, such as Scream, which
sounds a loud alarm and Lock Cam to catch
the culprit trying to access your phone.
4: Safe internet browsing
The Safe Browsing feature scans all the
websites you access to protect you from
online threats. You can see a summary of
sites browsed and deemed safe, but you’ll
also notice it in your browser, occasionally
popping up to inform you of danger.
5: Using Privacy Advisor
Tap on Scan Now and Lookout sifts through
all of the apps on your device then lets you
know which ones use your personal details,
location, messages, contacts or accounts. It’s
a great way to make an informed decision
about which apps you use for what purpose.
