Amateur Astronomy 2 Sessions LECTURES & WORKSHOPS Time: Session 1: 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM, Session 2: 7:45 PM - 9:45 PM Day: Mondays, beginning October 17 Instructor: Eugene Artemyeff Cost: $20 Location: Glen Cove High School, Room 124 Description: Have you always been fascinated by the night sky Spend a couple of evenings learning how to become an amateur astronomer. In a mini astronomy course/slide presentation, you’ll learn about the vastness of space and the distances involved in space travel. Learn the differences in the various types of telescopes available and which might be better for you. Try them out in a viewing session outdoors. Think a telescope might be too much for you Give binocular astronomy a try. Test out binoculars of various sizes and magnifications. Both evenings will include an indoor talk/graphics presentation, and the second evening outside will be dedicated to viewing some of the wonders of the night sky! Bring your curiosity and questions, bring your scope or binoculars. If you’ve never looked at Saturn or the moon through a telescope, it’s reason enough to come! Limited to 12 students. Notes: Instructor will confirm outdoor location for the second session (likely to be held behind the high school in the parking lot, near the track/bleachers). Please be sure to get/give contact information to the instructor during the first session. If a raindate must be planned, it will be scheduled for October 31. Going Green: Alternative Energy and Sustainable Living 2 Sessions Time: 7:30 PM - 8:30 PM Day: Mondays, beginning October 17 Instructor: Seth Watkins Cost: $20 Location: Glen Cove High School, Room 123 Description: With all the talk of global warming, is our planet headed for a climatic catastrophe or is there hope for a sustainable and prosperous future What's new (and old) in "alternative" energy: solar, wind, hydrogen, biofuels...
