2011
ADULT
EDUCATION PROGRAM

A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR
Dear Resident,
September 2011
A whistle of wind in the air and the cooler weather quickening our step, remind us of schooldays' approach.
However, as adults, there is no need for us to simply reminisce - school is here for us as well. I hope you will
join us this fall and take part in the Glen Cove City School District’s Adult Education program.
Many of our popular instructors are back for the fall, and we have a number of new offerings in the program
that I hope you will take a look at. We are still offering a discount for Glen Cove residents, with a significant
discount for seniors. In addition, for this semester, we are continuing to discount rates for students taking more
than one course. Along with our new classes this fall, we are pleased to offer some very affordable one or twonight
lectures.
You will find that courses are listed in the catalog by category. The dates and times of classes are listed with the
course descriptions within the catalog. We have also included a basic calendar, which includes evenings when
there will be no Adult Education classes. Generally, when the school district is closed, we will not hold classes
on those evenings, so please take note of this calendar on page 5. (Also, please note that although the school
district is open on Wednesday, September 28, we will not be holding classes that evening.)
Our registration form can be found on page 20. Students may enroll in as many as five courses. Only one form
per participant is required and only one check needs to be submitted per applicant, made out to the Glen Cove
City School District. Please feel free to make photocopies of the registration form and please be sure to fill out
separate forms for each member of your household who would like to enroll.
Additional copies of this book are available at the Glen Cove City School District offices, located in the Thayer
House at 150 Dosoris Lane (on the Glen Cove High School campus). Copies are also available in the main
office of each of the district’s schools.
I'd like to thank our Director Emeritus, Richard Tortorici and my assistant Lorena Morrissey, for their
invaluable help with our fall program. Whether you choose a class for fun, to sharpen skills, or to give
something a try that is completely new to you, I hope you will find our courses engaging, as well as
informative. Please join us for the back-to-school season. Hope to see you in class.
Sincerely,
Lane Lipton
Director of Adult Education
