Physical Education 6th grade<br />
Participation and respect are encouraged in Physical education. Students will work<br />
together to form a whole instead of functioning as individuals to help promote<br />
teamwork. Communication and encouraging one another is another key aspect.<br />
Students will be exposed to new activities and will continue to develop skills they<br />
have learned in the past. Students will develop proper technique for throwing,<br />
batting, tossing, kicking, serving a volleyball, and focus on accuracy. Personal fitness<br />
activities will promote cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, muscular endurance<br />
and strength.<br />
Students will understand concepts and demonstrate ability to transfer skills across<br />
content areas and apply concepts and skills to real-life situation.<br />
Communication - Students will demonstrate the ability to communicate in<br />
meaningful and appropriate ways within the context of their own unique<br />
experiences, values, and perspectives.<br />
Experiences - Students will understand that the processes of creating and/or<br />
performing work are essential to the life experience of the individual and the<br />
community.<br />
Global Connections - Students will understand<br />
that the unified arts have a fundamental connection with cultures and<br />

Soccer<br />
1. Students will be demonstrating how to kick a soccer ball with the three different<br />
parts of the foot. (Communication, Global Connection, Evaluation)<br />
2. Students will be learning how to position on a soccer field and pass a soccer ball<br />
across the field (Communication, Experiences, Evaluation)<br />
3. Students will be able to work in small teams for a scrimmage (half without<br />
blockers, half with blockers) (Communication, Experience, Evaluation)<br />
Softball/Baseball<br />
1. Students are using targets to hit 5 out of 10 times for overhand throwing<br />
(Integration, Communication, Experience)<br />
2. Students will be working on hitting drills and will try to hit 3 out of 7 pitches<br />
(Communication, Experience, Integration)<br />
Volleyball<br />
1. Students will be working on getting at least 4 consecutive bumps to the partner<br />
(Communication, Experience, Integration)<br />
2. Students will be trying to hit a target (basketball hoop) 3 out of 5 times setting a<br />
volleyball (Communication, Experience, Integration)<br />
3. Students will be on two teams that will try to bump or set the volleyball over the<br />
net to the other team and get a volley of 5 hits or more over the net<br />
(Communication, Integration, Evaluation)<br />
Recreational Games<br />
1. Students will be hitting moving targets with an overhand throw in dodge ball<br />
(Communicating, Experience, Global Connections, Experience)<br />
2. Students will be throwing a football or running a football back in the game of<br />
Capture the Football (Communication, Evaluation, Integration)<br />
3. Students will be involved in ultimate Frisbee with teams and learning how to<br />

Badminton<br />
1. Students will be demonstrating how to hold a racquet and overhand serve<br />
(making contact) 5 times to the target (Communication, Integration)<br />
2. Students will be learning how to volley over the net a minimum of 5 times with<br />
partner (Communication, Integration, Evaluation)<br />
3. Students will be working with a partner and work together to achieve a<br />
scrimmage to 11 points vs. another team. (Communication, Integration, Experience)<br />

Fitness Testing<br />
1. Students will be making a goal to achieve during fitness testing<br />
(Communication, Experience, Integration)<br />
Group learning through demonstrations and the use of the F.E.I. approach.<br />
Students are developing personal fitness through goal setting, making predictions<br />
and visualizing. Team building is a major focus utilizing: communication,<br />
cooperation, asking questions and making connections. Gross motor and<br />
manipulative skills are refined through practice, peer feedback, performance based<br />
assessments and knowing what strategy works. Communication, along with group<br />
discussions will help make connections through sports and body use (muscular<br />
development, cardiovascular strength).<br />
