Machine
Tools Cluster o f Bengaluru
was
conducted

of Manufacturing Technology ( ICAMT)

This was the first in the series of such programmes for
M achine Tools clusters across thecountry.
2 . The
o bjective
o f the programme was to
create a general awareness about
Intellectual
Property (IP), the a dvantages and need
of Small and Medium Enterprises
( SMEs) to protect their own IPs and also not infringing IP that belongs to others. It was
also the objective to apprise the participants about the procedures for securing IP, ways
a nd means of effectively using IP and abut steps that can be taken against infringement
o f their IPRs.
3 . The
m ethods
u sed consisted of
( i) showing a film on SMEs and
IP

( ii) p resentation of power point presentations, and
( iii) Interactive sessions where participants were encouraged to share
e xperiences and ask
questions about IPRs.
4 . The programme evoked a lot of interest and there was a good participation. The

5 . The
p rogramme
c ommenced at 10:30 a.m. and concluded at 5:00 p.m.
At the
o utset, Mr. M.S. Dhakad gave a brief background about the UNIDO-
ICAMT programme
a nd the necessity of SMEs obtaining IPR awareness. He also informed the participants
that

I CAMT would soon launch a website devoted to IPR issues of SMEs. The
p rogramme was inaugurated by M r. S.M. J amkhandi,

MSME,
Bengaluru.
In his
address, he briefed the participants about the various programmes for SMEs that the
Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises have. The Consultant then made his
