Signs<br />

As we have seen border stones and signs had different purposes with signs<br />

aimed at informing. As movement along the borders in the study area was<br />

highly controlled it was important to inform people of what areas were<br />

restricted and which areas could be accessed. Also it was important to inform<br />

people on how to behave within the areas they could access. Although more<br />

abundant in the past the presence of signage is still apparent in the landscape<br />

and often demonstrates attempts to keep people out of the border area. These<br />
