PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Hello CGA,
Good news for everyone, shows are running
again. There are plenty of 2 day shows going
on.
State is just around the corner, JULY 1 st , is the
DEADLINE for State Show entries.
You don’t have to rate for state show this
year!
If your new to CGA or never been to State Show, it’s a great show to attend, a week
long of riding, camping, match races, game activities every day and night, and a
snack bar all week long. It’s a great week to spend with family and friends.
Don’t forget to get your Bar-b-cue tickets for the dinner on Wednesday night and
this year it will be held at the patio with table and chairs. All kinds of games will be
held afterwards that our great Teen Activity Ladies; Sally, Stacy and Wendy have
been working on all year long.
They will of course have activities during the week when riding is over also, so
those kids that are not riding, there will be plenty for them to do. If there are any
adults that are looking for something to do I know Sally and the ladies would
welcome any help. They are riders also and they do this in between riding and
caring for their animals.
We can always use help in the arenas also. There are some small districts coming
and they can always use the help working there event. You don’t have to work all
day, but if you’re a rider in the morning it would be helpful after you ride to come
and relieve those workers that were working so you could ride. Then everyone just
works a little and everyone still has time to relax and enjoy the week.
BOD and district delegates don’t forget about the board meeting on Saturday
afternoon. All delegates should also be attending this meeting. If your delegate is
not attending state show your district President needs to contact State Office prior
to state so you can let her know who your delegate will be or they won’t be able to
vote on anything during the meeting.
Everyone have a safe trip, safe riding and wear your helmets
Skip
*****WANTED*****
CGA is looking for donations for the 2011
State Final’s raffle. We are asking that any
district or person that has new items they
would like to donate for the raffle to please
bring them to State Show. A portion of the
profits from this raffle will be donated to
Breast Cancer.

REMEMBER PARENTS AND LEGAL GUARDIANS
ALL CGA ENTRY FORMS INCLUDING DISTRICT FORMS MUST
BE SIGNED BY A PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN FOR ALL
MINORS PARTICIPATING IN CGA EVENTS.
THERE IS NO EXCEPTION TO THIS RULE!
A PERMISSION SLIP FROM A PARENT OR GUARDIAN IS NOT
The Judge's
Corner
"The Judge’s Corner" has appeared in this paper with a varying degree of regularity
since 1991. CGA Judges, Members and Work Crew are invited to submit difficult calls
or unusual questions that occur so that others can learn from their experiences. The
best ones (unusual or just plain odd) will be printed here.
If you have input for this column, please send your question to the CGA State Office.
Your question will be answered by a Master Judge and the Rules Chairman. If there
is any disagreement, it will be submitted to the Rules Committee and MAC for final
resolution.
If anyone has questions concerning this ruling you may contact the Rules Chairman,
Andy Krogh 760-505-8241andy@kroghwelding.com.
Question: Can a rider enter the arena and then take their belt buckle off and ride Or
pull their belt off after they enter the arena
Answer: No. A rider cannot intentionally disregard the dress code once they enter
the arena. A rider does not have to wear a big belt with a big buckle. They can wear
a normal sized belt with a normal buckle. If the rider still does not like that option
then they can ride in a half belt’ which is a specially designed belt that hooks from a
belt loop on one side of your pants goes around the back and connects to the other
side belt loop. A half belt leaves the front open and free of distractions.
Thank you and best regards,
Family Team Award
CGA is a Family organization and in recognition of the many families
that ride together in CGA we offer a Family Team Award available to all
riders regardless of ability.
The Family Team Award is 60 days retroactive from the date of the
postmarked application or the show date if applicable. The $120.00 fee per
rider includes the Year End Award Level 1, Silver Buckle, Silver Breast
Collar Set. For an additional $20 the applicant can include both Level 1 & 2
Year End Awards.
The Family Team Award is a Special Jacket for each team member
embroidered with the riders first name and rating division on the front. The
back of the jacket will have a barrel racer figure (male or female) and the last
name of the "family" above the words "Family Team Member". All jackets
within a "family" must use the same last name. Teams may consist of
parents, children, grandchildren, cousins, aunts, uncles, or any other relatives
so long as the last name is the same.
All riders on a "team" must earn at least a FC rating in order to qualify
for the jacket. That means that all the riders on the team must complete at
least 3 good rides in at least 4 events to qualify for the Family Team award.
Each team member's jacket will reflect their own rating level and each
member will receive their own rating level for the year end award that is
included in the $120.00 fee.
This is a great way for the entire family to participate and work
towards an award that they can wear with pride.
Sign up today so that your family doesn't lose any rides. This is a fun
award to earn and a great way to enjoy gymkhana with your family.
Saturday evening the skies opened up and dumped almost and inch of rain on San
Juan Bautista…We woke up to the arena floating. Unfortunately that meant we
couldn’t continue the second day of our show but did plan on trying to ride on our rain
date of May 21 st . That time the EHV-1 put a stop to those plans but all in all it was the
best for our riders and horses. As of right now we are preparing for our June 11 th and
12 th show and also our June 25 th show so our next newsletter article should have lots of
information and maybe even some photos our the Bay Area Time Buster’s début in the
San Benito County Saddle Horse Parade!
Until then, give your ponies lots of treats and wear your helmets!
It’s already Fireworks time again. Happy Birthday to the USA!!! Happy Fourth of July
to all the friends and families in CGA.
If it’s July that means it’s also CGA State Championship Finals time too!!! By the time
you get this it will be too late to sign up. We sure hope the EHV-1 outbreak is a distant
memory and everyone has a terrific State Show.

We managed to get a May 7 Mother’s Day show in between the rain and the EHV-1.
We had to cancel May 21 and June 4. The Trophy Series hasn’t happened yet as I
write this so I’ll report on that in the August issue.
We had 39 riders and the ground was pretty shallow. So the show management offered
a full refund for anyone that felt it was unsafe to ride. District 5 has some really intrepid
riders because not single rider scratched or asked for a refund. And a new Pony arena
record was set by Anna Rose on Lil Brat in Speed Ball with a smoking hot 7.053!
Congratulations Anna and Lil. It was definitely “pony” ground.
Welcome to our new riders and welcome back to some riders we haven’t seen in a
while. Welcome to new riders: Sara Allen riding Teresa’s Dreamer and little Skyler
Haines on tiny little miniature Moonlite. Too cute!!! Welcome back to: Shirley Garrett
on Sundance Kidd (great to see you ride Shirley) Nina Ketcherside on Dusty; Shanalee
Lewis on Turbo; Amanda Rodriguez on Life’s A Buzz and Alfred Tabarez on Obvious
Infatuation. It’s so nice to see everyone having fun and riding. The weather was
perfect, not too hot, not too cool. Just right.
We once again must thank those who worked the show so the riders could ride and in
many cases the riders are the workers. That is always difficult for riders so if you are a
non-rider, the best view of the show is inside the arena. Come on out and help run the
show. Working in the booth as Announcers/Time Writers: Charlie Moore, Bob Scott,
Maria Rodriguez, Margaret Grow, Amanda Rodriguez, and Andrea Brymer. Judges for
the day were: Andrea Brymer, Jody Abel, Judy Sharp, and Teresa Barosso. Renee
Birdsong was our apprentice judge for the day. Gate swingers were: Danny Ross,
Loretta Stevens, Josh Ochs, and Donna Battistone. Setting up and taking down the
obstacles and helping in the arena were: Renee Birdsong, Leslie and Lorretta Stevens,
Priscilla McDaniel, Daniel Romero, Donna Battistone, Danny Ross, and Sara Allen.
Helping out is a great way to get involved and - bonus - learn everyone’s name. It’s
easy to do (at least that’s what we always tell everyone) and we even give you a
Worker’s Coupon for each event you work. Only these worker coupons are eligible for
the Free Show drawing worth $35.00. The Workers Coupons are also worth a $1 on
your next ride or at the snack bar if you don’t put it in the Free Show drawing. So jump
in and work a couple of events.
Our Ribbon/Coupon Captain was Jody Abel & Charlie Moore. Thank you to all who
worked and helped us run the show.
Only Worker Coupons are eligible for the “Free Show” drawing. Free Show coupons
are worth $35.00. Congratulations to Judy Sharp - Free Show Winner for May 7, 2011.
The Mystery Jackpot was Poles II and the Jackpot was pretty good for a small show -
$55.00.
1D - Judy Sharp on Seven of Hearts won $22.00 with a time of 23.094
2D - Marissa Stevens on Lucky Charm won $16.50 with a time of 25.560
3D - Jody Abel on Katie won $5.50 with a time of 33.633
4D - Victoria Scott on Hanibal won $5.50 with a time of 35.223
5D - Danny Ross on Maucho Murray won $5.50 with a time of 39.625
You can’t win if you don’t enter. 100% of the Jackpot money is paid back to the riders.
Anyone can win and you don’t have to be the fastest rider to win. Try it next time and
see what happens. The more that enter the bigger the payout.
Donna Schenk also created two Mother’s Day gift baskets to raffle off. Those
chocolates sure looked good. We will be having a raffle at every show so if you can’t
win a jackpot or a ribbon maybe you can win the raffle prize. See Donna at the snack
bar for tickets.
We are not running any Sunday “day” shows this year but are going to try out Friday
night/Saturday night shows and see if that attracts more riders. The combination of
running late on Saturday night and then having to get up so early on Sunday to run a
day show was burning out our helpers and workers. The Friday night followed by
Saturday night should be a little easier on everyone plus we will all have Sunday to get
ready for “work” the next day. Of course those of you that work “swing shift” might
have a problem with new times. So it’s: Friday night shows - Sign up at 6 p.m. ride at 7
p.m. and Saturday night shows - Sign up at 5:30p.m. ride at 6:30 p.m. All other Day
shows remain Sign up at 8 a.m. Ride at 9:15 a.m. We are hoping to avoid the heat of the
late afternoon by starting at 5:30 instead of 4:00p.m. We set the start time for Friday
night at 7:00 p.m. in hopes of allowing everyone enough time to get home from work.
The club is planning a Poker Ride for September 17th at the Dry Creek Ranch House in
Rio Linda. We are bringing back the very popular Tack Sale/Swap for our September 9
& 10 shows with the addition of Crafts. There is no charge and everyone is welcome to
participate. Check www.latenightriders.org website for details.
For those of you that want to stay overnight at the arena there are some pens available
and camping is free. Please call Mike Barosso: 916-296-3329 or Teresa Barosso: 916-
826-9386 for more information on camping and pens.
You can get the latest information on District 5 shows by checking the Late Night
Riders website at: www.latenightriders.org
Everyone is welcome to attend the District 5 Club meetings on the third Sunday of each
month at Perko’s in the Elverta Crossing Shopping Center on Watt Ave. Meetings start
around 6:30 but come early and have dinner with us or just hang out and catch up on
the gossip and what is happening at District 5.
DISTRICT 27 - IONE/SUTTER CREEK JACKSON AREA
CASTLE COUNTRY RIDERS
http://www.cga27.com
By Carole Lindstrom
If you read this when it first comes out you’ll probably be getting ready for District 27’s
year end party and awards. The party is on Sunday, June 26 at 12:30 PM at the
Amador County Fair-Grounds in Plymouth. To get there you take Highway 49 North
from Highway 16 or from Jackson to Plymouth. The fair grounds are on the South end
of town and we will have signs up so you can’t miss the place you need to go. I can
hardly wait to see who wins those custom saddles plus all the other fabulous awards.
SOB will be serving a great lunch so come hungry. If you haven’t RSVP’d yet and
want to come be sure to email Carole or Amanda ASAP. We need to know how many to
feed.
The super abundance of rain drops this year has played havoc with some arena’s and
fouled up lots of people’s Gymkhana plans. We got all of our shows in just fine but the
wet arena ends made for some creative event scheduling on the part of our Arena
Manager, Jeanne. She did a great job of seeing to it that all the events were run enough
times and the schedule was fair to both those skill riders and the speed freaks. Not
only that but she kept the two arena’s busy so there was little lag time between events
and we were able to run very large crowds without missing too many dinner times. Of
course we couldn’t have done any of that without lots and lots of help. What a
fabulous group of riders, parents and friends. Our sign-up sheet was always filled and
there were willing hands whenever we needed them. You guys are great.
So the rain screwed up lots of plans and then that Herpes Virus came around and
caused all kinds of panic. We sure learned how careful we must be keeping our horses
safe. Many shows were canceled as were trail rides and some just plain fun stuff. This
is the first time in YEARS that I’ve been home over Memorial Day Weekend, but when
Northern Classic was canceled I was stuck. Did you know they have horse races, car
races, golf matches and all kinds of other crap, er, I mean sports, on TV over Memorial
Day I didn’t. Now I know how my husband spends his holiday weekends.
Now that the crisis is over and the arenas are dried out it’s time to get back in the
saddle. I hope I’ll see you around the barrels someday soon. And remember, District
27 will start up again next fall.

must provide proof of age, and the horse/rider combination cannot be
signed up for the ROC program in the same show season. This program is
for horses only (no pony divisions).
The ultimate achievement for an SE rider is to ride to the Senior Elite Hall
of Fame. Any SE rider who during the show season becomes AAA+ rated
in ten (10) of the thirteen (13) events using the SE Matrix will be entered
into the CGA Senior Elite Hall of Fame. They will receive a special Senior
Elite Hall of Fame buckle and a framed picture at the CGA Annual
convention. In the event the rider does not earn a Senior Elite Hall of
Fame buckle, the rider will be eligible for the Level 1 Award using the
normal Rating Matrix. If the rider does not also receive an Senior Elite
Champion or Reserve Champion jacket, they have the option of receiving
a Senior Elite Hall of Fame jacket instead of the Hall of Fame buckle.
Senior Elite Champion In Each Event
The riders with the 1st and 2nd best average times in the event are the SE
Champion and SE Reserve Champion, respectively. SE Champions and
Reserve Champions will receive an SE jacket listing each event in which
they are Champion or Reserve Champion.
Senior Elite Top Five Riders
The CGA’s Senior Elite Top Five Riders will be determined by the
following method: the rider’s fastest 3 rides in each event are averaged.
The 5 riders in each event with the fastest average will be given points as
follows:
1st - 11 points 2nd - 9 points 3rd - 8 points
4th - 7 points 5th - 6 points
Points from all thirteen (13) events will be added together, and the Five
riders with the most points will become a member of CGA’s Senior Elite
Top Five. Any ties will be broken by determining which rider has won the
most first places. If the tie still exists, the rider with the most second places
is selected. This process is continued, if necessary, to the place required to
break the tie. Senior Elite Top Five Riders must have a SE rating of at
least AAA using the normal Rating Matrix. They will receive a special
Senior Elite Top Five buckle.
Registration and Fees
The SE registration fee is $120.00, which includes the Level 1 award. A
Senior Elite rider that enters Senior Elite Hall of Fame will receive the Hall
of Fame award, but not the Level 1 award. A Senior Elite Rider that does
not enter Senior Elite Hall of Fame will receive the Level 1 award.
Senior Elite riders may sign up for Level 1 and Level 2 awards for a fee
of $140.00. A Senior Elite rider that enters Senior Elite Hall of Fame will
receive the Hall of Fame awards and the Level 2 award. A Senior Elite
rider that does not enter Senior Elite Hall of Fame will receive both the
Level 1 award and the Level 2 award. Fees are not refundable.

Explanation of 5-D Jackpots
For All CGA State Sponsored Shows
Note: District’s may alter all the Jackpot options as they choose for local shows running jackpots or
Mystery jackpots
Riders may optionally enter a jackpot for any or all of the regular events. The cost is an additional $5.00
per event, and a rider may choose to enter the Jackpot for none, some, or all of the regular events. These
jackpots are unrelated to the rider’s division or age, and whether or not they are riding a horse or a pony.
They are based strictly on the time the rider achieves in that event. Only the times of the Riders entering
the Jackpots count. The size of the payout is determined by the number of riders in the jackpot. The
Payout is:
Fastest ride - 40 % of the jackpot
2-D ride - 30 % of the jackpot
3-D ride - 10 % of the jackpot
4-D ride - 10 % of the jackpot
5-D ride - 10 % of the jackpot
CGA - None. All jackpot money is paid back to the riders.
2-D, 3-D, 4-D and 5-D rides are those that come the closest (without going faster) to the fastest time
of those entering the jackpot +(plus) the adjustment factor for that event. The adjustment factors are
listed below.
Event 2-D Adjustment 3-D Adjustment 4-D Adjust. 5-D Adjust.
BAR + 1.380 + 2.761 + 4.141 + 5.521
BR + 1.120 + 2.241 + 3.361 + 4.481
F8F + 3.130 + 6.260 + 9.391 + 12.521
F8S + 0.820 + 1.640 + 2.461 + 3.281
HS + 1.564 + 3.127 + 4.691 + 6.255
KH + 1.317 + 2.634 + 3.951 + 5.268
P1 + 1.534 + 3.067 + 4.601 + 6.135
P2 + 2.367 + 4.734 + 7.101 + 9.468
QR + 1.587 + 3.174 + 4.761 + 6.348
SBL + 1.204 + 2.407 + 3.611 + 4.815
SBR + 0.814 + 1.627 + 2.441 + 3.255
SSR + 0.544 + 1.087 + 1.631 + 2.175
BT + 2.035 + 4.070 + 6.105 + 8.140
For example, if the fastest ride in Poles I was 10.990 seconds, and the jackpot was $400.00, then that
rider would receive $160.00. The rider closest to the 2-D time of 12.524 (10.990 + 1.534) without
going faster would receive $120.00. The rider closest to the 3-D time of 14.057 (10.990 + 3.067)
without going faster would receive $40.00. The rider closest to the 4-D time of 15.591 (10.990 +
4.601) without going faster would receive $40.00. The rider closest to the 5-D time of 17.125 (10.990
+ 6.135) without going faster would receive $40.00.
