She oversees 70 residency and fellowship<br />
programs and helped the <strong>Medical</strong> <strong>Center</strong><br />
receive a six-year accreditation for graduate<br />
medical education programs, a first for any<br />
medical school in the nation. Hartmann<br />
specializes in geriatric women’s health.<br />
George Hicks (MD ‘71, R ’77, FLW ‘78) was<br />
elected director <strong>of</strong> the American Board <strong>of</strong><br />
Thoracic Surgery examination consultant<br />
committee. He is also a member <strong>of</strong> the Task<br />
Force on Mentoring Residents <strong>of</strong> the Society<br />
<strong>of</strong> Thoracic Surgeons.<br />
Donald Huene (R ‘67) was awarded his 14th<br />
patent and the first that was not on a medical<br />
device. The U.S. patent is titled: “Fastener<br />
system and method for binding papers.”<br />
Huene says he still practices orthopaedic<br />
surgery, but takes more time <strong>of</strong>f. He also<br />
raises thoroughbred horses, which race at<br />
Bay Meadows, Santa Anita, Hollywood Park<br />
and Golden Gate Fields. Because <strong>of</strong> time<br />
commitments, he gave up raising emus,<br />
ostriches and llamas.<br />
Alissa Huston (R ‘03) was recruited by the<br />
James P. Wilmot Cancer <strong>Center</strong> for its<br />
Comprehensive Breast Cancer Program.<br />
Huston comes from Pittsburgh Cancer<br />
Institute where she completed a fellowship<br />
in hematology/oncology.<br />
Christine (Tina) Kurland (M ’78, R ‘79) and<br />
Karen Blumberg (M ’78) reunited after many<br />
years at the American College <strong>of</strong> Radiology<br />
Convocation in Washington, D.C., where they<br />
were both inducted as fellows, an honor given<br />
to about 10 percent <strong>of</strong> radiologists.<br />
Paul C. Levy (R ‘86) has been named acting<br />
chairman <strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> Medicine at<br />
the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Rochester</strong> <strong>Medical</strong> <strong>Center</strong>.<br />
For the past three years Levy has served as<br />
vice chairman <strong>of</strong> medicine and has played<br />
an instrumental role in developing and implementing<br />
new programs within the department.<br />
Michael Maloney (R ‘97) was one <strong>of</strong> only<br />
three orthopaedic surgeons in North America<br />
awarded a traveling fellowship by the<br />
American Orthopaedic Society for Sports<br />
Medicine. He recently completed a monthlong<br />
tour <strong>of</strong> Europe’s top sports medicine and<br />
Olympic training centers to observe and share<br />
best practices and advances in research.<br />
Allan MacDonald (M ’83, R ’86) writes:<br />
“We recently moved to Florence, S.C., to<br />
start teaching in the Family Medicine residency<br />
program in northeastern South Carolina<br />
at McLeod Regional <strong>Medical</strong> <strong>Center</strong>. I am<br />
responsible for the obstetrics, newborn<br />
nursery, and pediatrics portions <strong>of</strong> our<br />
program. I am the only family physician<br />
