China, and the city of Beijing in particular, offered the
whole world an exceptional spectacle during the 16 days
of competitions, in which the Olympic scholarship
holders played an important role, with no fewer than
three athletes, out of the 81 medals (19 gold, 33 silver and
29 bronze) won in Beijing, winning their country’s very
first Olympic medal : the Afghan Rohullah Nikpai in taekwondo,
Tajik Rasul Bokiev in judo and Togo’s Benjamin
Boukpeti in canoeing. Heroes for a day in Beijing, and
heroes for always in their native countries, for the time
it took to play an anthem these three men gave their
countries the chance to stand on the Olympic podium as
equals with the other medal-winning nations.

La Chine et la ville de Beijing en particulier ont offert au
monde entier un spectacle exceptionnel durant les seize
jours de compétitions, spectacle dans lequel les boursiers
olympiques ont joué un rôle considérable en remportant
un total de 81 médailles (19 en or, 33 en argent et 29 en
bronze ). Parmi les médaillés, trois athlètes ont remporté
la toute première médaille olympique pour leur pays:
l’Afghan Rohullah Nikpai en taekwondo, le Tadjik Rasul
Bokiev en judo et le Togolais Benjamin Boukpeti en canoë.
Héros d’un jour à Beijing, héros pour toujours dans leur
terre natale, ces trois prodiges ont offert à leur pays la
possibilité de se retrouver, le temps d’un hymne, sur un
pied d’égalité avec les autres nations médaillées.
