Erwin H. Kupitz (EHK), and 

formed an exclusive partnership 

with him. The partnership was 

designed to effectively join the 

most advanced Hollywood movie 

techniques with everyday use for 

the average hair wearing client. 

The result is EHK. 

The most critical step in producing the 

finest hair replacement in the world is to 

start with the finest quality hair. It is well 

known in our industry that the most 

expensive, and highest quality, human 

hair is from Eastern Europe. Blending 

this extremely expensive hair with hand 

selected hair of various origins gives 

EHK its distinctive look and feel. To 

begin that process Erwin Kupitz shared 

his most proprietary hair sources with 

J.A. Alternatives. The hair we purchase 

is hand gathered and directly delivered 

to J.A. Alternatives in its virgin state. 

J.A. Alternatives then selects the 

batches of hair to be used in the very 

important blending process. When the 

hair is specially processed and blended 

the results are extraordinary. Erwin 

uses this exact technique for some of 

the biggest stars in Hollywood. A light 

reflective quality, availability of beautiful 

colors, and a variety of textures are

base material 

The lace material used in the base construction of the EHK 

is acquired from a special source. Erwin Kupitz has used 

this exact confidential source for his own Hollywood movie 

creations for many years and now he has incorporated it into 

the EHK exclusive design. The material is treated in a way so 

that it accepts various bonding methods easily, along with 

providing an invisible appearance against the scalp. It is the 

lightest, thinnest, yet remarkably strong material that we 

have ever used in a hair replacement.

The EHK stock hair replacement has all the qualities of the EHK 

custom except that it takes much less time to deliver. Erwin has 

designed a method of creating a basic EHK hair replacement 

without a custom LifeCast by determining the most common scalp 

dimensions and hair color of the average client. Since J.A. 

Alternatives uses its own factory to create their hair replacements, 

they were able to take Erwin's delicate designs and scale 

the production to fit the demand. Erwin and his team personally 

trained the entire factory staff. They return to the factory regularly to 

offer remedial training and quality control.

The EHK is patent pending and registered with the 

United States Patent Office. There are many proprietary 

elements that go into the design of the EHK. Among 

the most notable are Erwin's unique knotting plan and 

innovative control for density. For patent purposes, we 

cannot reveal the actual knotting plan of the EHK. 

However, the final result is a hair replacement that is 

ventilated exactly to duplicate the natural growing 

pattern of a client's own existing hair. This unique 

knotting plan not only makes the hairline the finest 

ever created, but that plan is extended throughout the 

hair replacement, resulting in undetectable blending 

lines and a remarkable crown appearance as well. Most 

conventional hair replacements do not reflect that kind 

of detailed creativity. Delivering consistent densities in 

hair replacements has long been an area of concern for 

clients and hair replacement manufacturers alike. In 

designing the EHK, Erwin ingeniously decided to 

incorporate the base material in this process instead 

of trying to control the subjective requests for hair 

densities like light, medium, or heavy. In other words, 

Erwin has selected base material with different size 

openings, or holes. The EHK factory ventilators simply 

apply the "one hair one hole" method to the hair tying 

process. Instead of having ventilators "interpret " 

hair densities by percentage or weight, they simply use 

base materials selected with larger openings for thin 

densities and smaller openings for heavier densities. 

This has completely solved the problem of inconsistent 

densities from one hair replacement to another.


Erwin and J.A. Alternatives have produced pages of 

factory instructions on precisely how to blend the 

European human hair to achieve the most natural looking 

results. In addition to being proprietary information, it is 

far too complex to discuss here. However, Erwin’s theory 

of hair blending can be summarized in this way. It is the 

process of utilizing many different colors and textures of 

hair in any given hair replacement in order to achieve a 

perfect color match, realistic dimension, and proper light 

reflection. Erwin has made this a science and he has 

applied this theory to all his award winning movie work 

for Hollywood’s biggest stars. Lately, there has been a 


color blending 

trend by hair replacement providers to “bleach” 

knots in the front of a hair replacement. This procedure 

is supposed to make the knots less visible. Yes, 

bleaching knots in the front of a hair replacement can 

marginally improve the look of it because it is a way to 

camouflage mediocre ventilating and hair quality. 

However, the EHK hair replacements are made to be 

worn exactly as ventilated. The knotting, hair selection, 

and base material together will create the most natural 

hairline. In addition, over bleaching of the frontal area 

will inevitably weaken the hair, causing breakage, 

hair loss, and discoloration.

One of the most important areas of a hair replacement is 

the hairline. It is an area that cannot be camouflaged and it 

is usually the area that people see first. The best way to 

appreciate the hairline of an EHK is to see it up close, inches 

from the scalp. This is a distance that most people never 

see your hairline from. Even under this extreme scrutiny, 

the EHK hairline looks completely natural. This effect is 

achieved by using the EHK special base material, the 

finest European human hair, special blending techniques, 

and precise ventilation.

It is interesting to note that most people see your hair from the back and sides much 

more often than they do from the front. One of the most overlooked areas in designing 

a hair replacement has been the crown or top back portion of the scalp. If you closely 

examine the crown area of someone with a full head of hair, you will likely see a 

natural swirl pattern that has a very subtle starting point. Because Erwin has designed 

for Hollywood for so many years, he is very aware of the movie stars being seen from 

every angle in a film, especially the back and top. This effect in the EHK is achieved 

solely through the use of Erwin’s innovative knotting plan and the masterful use of slightly 

variable density in that area. The best way to appreciate the crown appearance of an 

EHK is to see it up close for yourself.

The construction of the EHK custom base begins with a LifeCast. A LifeCast will give us 

the exact dimensions along with the exact contour of the client’s hair loss area. This 

very important process begins with a layer of plastic wrap and several layers of plaster 

molding strips. The end result is a hard plaster mold of the client’s hair loss area. It is 

this exact mold that our own J.A. Alternatives factory conforms the EHK base material 

to. That results in the most perfect base fit, even for clients with challenging contour 

problems or full cap areas. The plaster mold is then stored at our J.A. Alternatives factory 

where future hair replacements can be ordered for the client in much less time and 

with consistent accuracy
