this dining room overlooking the garden. The<br />

restaurant also has a smaller room illuminated<br />

by 18th century light fitting and appliques. This<br />

historic venue is one of the most renowned in<br />

fresh, homemade pasta and a variety of meats. It<br />

PELLAPRAT – This restaurant, located in the heart<br />

of the <strong>Milan</strong>ese movida in the Navigli area,<br />

was opened by the talented chef, Giacomo<br />

Leporati. Simple though warm ambiance. Best<br />

dishes: rabbit salad in porchetta, wild game with<br />

“risotto alla milanese”, “cotoletta alla milanese”,<br />

“ossobuco” and “cassouela” and shrimps with<br />

mustard. Service and cover charge included in<br />

Riccione – One of the most famous fish<br />

restaurants in the city. Formerly patronized by<br />

journalists and celebrities, nowadays, though<br />

still expensive, it continues to offer first-rate fish<br />

SAMBUCO (IL) – Creative fish cuisine. Its most<br />

famous dish is “fritto misto di mare” (mixed<br />

Wonderful ice-creams (vanilla, caramel or<br />

cinnamon flavoured) and chocolate-based<br />

Sarla – Sarla in Indian means “virtuous<br />

simplicity”,the underlying philosophy of this<br />

famous Indian restaurant which is also the best in<br />

town. We suggest trying: “Aam Baadam” (chicken<br />

sauce), “Punjabi Kadhi” (vegetables and chickpea<br />

patties in a delicate yoghurt sauce, flavoured<br />

Gualtiero Marchesi’s Euro Toques and a teacher<br />

at the Culinary Institute of America and Roberta<br />

Zulian, make a formidable team of chefs. Dishes<br />

include, Parmesan flan caramelized with cream<br />

of artichokes and eggs, “Risotto Acquerello” with<br />

asparagus. Favourite main courses are “la mia<br />

cotoletta” and the restaurant’s codfish speciality<br />

while the desserts on offer include various types<br />

Seven – A real green oasis with all the appeal<br />

of old-world <strong>Milan</strong>, Seven has five highly<br />

characteristic dining rooms and a veranda (with<br />

a seating capacity of 130) . Ideal for an intimate<br />

grilled meat and fish and soups. Great selection<br />

twentieth century building, this is the best<br />

restaurant in <strong>Milan</strong> for Vietnamese cuisine. “Must<br />

try” dishes include crab soup with ginger, beef<br />

cooked in an earthenware pot with star anise and<br />

Yacout – The name of a famous restaurant<br />

in Marrakech, the ambience is reminiscent<br />

of a private residence in the Medina. Spread<br />

over three levels, the restaurant has a tiled<br />

water feature on the ground floor. It offers<br />

Mediterranean cuisine and an array of enticing<br />

Moroccan food: pastille (fish, vegetables and<br />

chicken) and harira soup (a soup made from<br />

pulses served with dates and lemon) tajine and<br />

couscous. Only open in the evening from 6.30pm<br />

If you are looking for a typical Italian restaurant, then Osteria<br />

La Carbonaia is your place of choice. No frills, just a few seats<br />

available and a cosy, welcoming atmosphere, La Carbonaia is<br />

located in a very special area of <strong>Milan</strong>, just a few steps from the<br />

Basilica of Sant’Ambrogio (see photo above) and approx<br />

5 minutes’ walk from Leonardo’s Last Supper and the Museum<br />

of Science and Technology. Try the special meat dishes,<br />

grilled on the spot and don’t forget to order the Chianti “della<br />

DA GIULIANO – Though somewhat Spartan,<br />

this venue offers delicious sliced pizza, either<br />

in a simpler version (their basic, tomato and<br />

mozzarella slice is absolutely fantastic) or with a<br />

filling. A hot favourite with the <strong>Milan</strong>ese, its fans<br />

have been flocking here in droves since the ‘70’s.<br />

The perfect place to catch a quick snack after the<br />

DA RITA E ANTONIO – This restaurant, famous for<br />

its authentic Neapolitan pizza, i.e. round, not too<br />

big and thin-crusted, is located next to the Teatro<br />

Dal Verme, just near Parco Sempione and the<br />

Castello Sforzesco. It also serves fresh pasta and<br />

FRIJENNO MAGNANNO – The epitome of<br />

Neapolitan tradition, it serves utterly delicious<br />
