Dining with Giuseppe Verdi
Set against an elegant backdrop in the heart of the Milan metropolis, Don Carlos is
an intimate spot set with a warm, sophisticated ambience. Its walls are decorated
with paintings and sketches from La Scala and the restaurant is dedicated to the
musician, Giuseppe Verdi, who spent the last years of his life in the Suite del Grand
Hotel et de Milan, where he composed several of his most famous operas. The
restaurant has an elegant outdoor area and a cellar boasting over 200 superlative
wines. The menu is enhanced by the creative cuisine of Angelo Gangemi, a young,
talented Roman chef, and his team. The restaurant is open every day until late at
night for after-theatre diners.
Panoramic Cocktail
Milan is also a city of fun! After a frantic
day at work, there is nothing better than
spending a few relaxing hours at the
bars and restaurants that feature big on
the Milan nightlife scene. When it opens,
in Spring 2011, The Sky-Terrace Bar will
definitely be the place to go. Located just a
short distance from the city’s major art and
culture destinations, first and foremost, the
Teatro alla Scala, it will boast a panoramic
terrace measuring 170sq.m. in width, with
a fantastic view over the whole of Milan,
where visitors will be able to spend unique
moments of total relaxation, while sipping
a cocktail and enjoying the view from a
wonderful vantage point. In the meantime,
you can enjoy the charming “Bar Prima
Donna”, which can be reached either from
directly through the Bar Entrance in Via
dell’Orso and through the Hotel lobby.
Concierge Corner
Each month Milan’s top concierge share
their tips on making the most of your stay
in the city. This month: MARIO PICOZZI
of the Park Hyatt Milano.
“Our hotel is situated
in the centre of Milan,
right in front of the
Galleria Vittorio
Emanuele, the historic
heart of the city,
the financial district
and the Milan Stock
Exchange, all of which
can be reached in just 3 minutes on foot from
the hotel. But, most important of all, we are just a
stone’s throw from the Quadrilatero della moda.
Therefore, when our guests ask us for advice
about shopping, all we need do is to point
them in the direction of via Montenapoleone
and via Della Spiga, where they will find all
the most famous designer labels in the world.
Conversely, if our guests are in search of
something antique or unusual, we suggest that
they take a walk around the old streets of Brera,
for antique shops, antique jewellery, paintings
and everything related to vintage objects.
And, obviously, it goes without saying that the
Galleria and Corso Vittorio Emanuele are also
extremely popular with our clientele.
For those who are more culture-oriented, the
spires of the Duomo are a “must see” experience.
From here you can admire a panoramic view
over the rooftops of Milan, La Scala and the La
Scala Museum and, just a short distance from
the Galleria, other places of cultural and artistic
interest such as the Museo Poldi Pezzoli, Palazzo
Reale, the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, the Castello
Sforzesco and, naturally, Santa Maria Delle Grazie
hosting “The Last Supper”.
Each guest is looking for something different
which explains why we offer a totally
customized service. We are experts at offering
authentic hospitality: everything that we
organize is personalized and tailored to suit
individual requirements. The guests that
approach us know that they can either end their
day by relaxing with a culinary experience at
our The Park restaurant or by taking advantage
of one of the exclusive treatments offered by
our SPA, while always enjoying the privilege of
a stylish, contemporary location. In answer to
those who ask me, I always reply: “Milan
It’s where people in the know always go!”
