Singing Symphony
In his new guise as a champion of the fusion between
pop and classical music, on 2 November, Sting will
debut at the Teatro degli Arcimboldi accompanied by
the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra (directed by
Steven Mercurio). The second of the three Italian dates
of his “Symphonicity Tour”, the British artist will present
a selection of his most famous pieces rearranged in a
symphonic key. The famous hits of the Police era – from
Roxanne to Every Breath You Take – as well as all those
that consecrated him as a solo artist, such as Fragile and
Englishman in New York, recently recorded in an album
signed by Deutsche Grammophon, will be sung to the
strains of violins, cellos, oboes and clarinets (p. 65).

jazzin’ it up
Blue Note promises a warm autumn of music dedicated
to the wonderful world of jazz, but not only. On 17 and 18
November, the via Borsieri venue will be hosting a special guest
star and a big name on the music scene for decades, Robert Fripp, former founder of the legendary
King Crimson and an eclectic guitarist who will offer a taste of his most recent work, a combination of

morricone scores big time
Academy Award winner Ennio Morricone
is one of the most brilliant and prolific
composers of the twentieth century: known
and appreciated throughout the world, with
over five hundred scores to his credit, his
work ranges from “absolute music” (like Voci
dal silenzio, a tribute to the victims of 9/11)
to the soundtracks for the films that made
him famous (A Fistful of Dollars, Once Upon a
Time in the West, The Mission, The Untouchables
and Cinema Paradiso). The maestro will be
back on 19 November at the Mediolanum
Forum (Assago) where, on the occasion of
the Gran Galà “Ennio Morricone per il Cinema”,
he will personally conduct the memorable
compositions that have marked his long career.

The qualifying round of the UEFA Champions
League will see the match between two of
Europe’s best teams who will battle it out on
3 November at Stadio “Giuseppe Meazza”.
AC Milan’s premiere players, including bignames
of the calibre of Ronaldinho, Pato and
Ibrahimovic, will face Real Madrid giants like
Cristiano Ronaldo, Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos

Veteran guitar virtuoso, Joe Satriani is one of the most technically accomplished and respected
musicians in the world. Boasting an enormous fan following in the rock community, he has played
on tour with artists of the calibre of Mick Jagger and Deep Purple and on 11 November will debut at
Alcatraz for the first Italian stage of his “Live Tour 2010”, together with other special guests like the

In November (on the 2nd, 4th, 6th,
9th, 12th, 14th and 18th) a repeat
version of Bizet’s Carmen, which
opened the 2009-2010 opera season,
will be staged at Teatro alla Scala.
This time around, the Maestro
Scaligero Daniel Barenboim will be
replaced by the young, Venezuelan
conductor, Gustavo Dudamel,
who will lead the tenor, Lance Ryan
(Don José) and the Georgian Mezzo,
Anita Rachvelishvili (Carmen) in this
intriguing plot of tragedy and passion
played out against Emma Dante’s
provocative rendition of the production.
