Minutes of the Last Meeting<br />
The minutes of the last meeting were agreed as accurate.<br />
Matters Arising<br />
NK has sent a list of promotional items to DA for ordering.<br />
INFORM UPDATE – Natalie Kenny<br />
NK provided the group with an update regarding the inform stage of project Bernie. All coming soon<br />
posters have now been passed to CW for the three schools that will be involved in the project. The<br />
billboards and merchandise have been ordered ready for the launch.<br />
ACTION – A link to be created from the youth services website to the Bernie website.<br />

DA informed the group that the Bernie Facebook page is currently in hibernation but would be<br />
operating during the project Bernie duration. A member of staff from SWFRS will maintain the page<br />
but would need a contact in each of the four unitary authorities that would have local knowledge of the<br />
area.<br />
EDUCATE UPDATE – Claire Williams<br />
CW informed the group that the ‘coming soon’ posters will be going up around the school by the end<br />
of the week. Activities planned will provide 615 places for young people to attend from Saturday 16 th<br />
April 2011 through to Saturday 30 th April 2011. A list of activities will accompany today’s minutes.<br />
ACTION – BH has requested official SWFRS vehicles at three evening sessions. BH will contact DA<br />
by email with the requirements to arrange this.<br />
DA will order an additional 100 hoodies in a mixture of black and pink various sizes, beanie hats<br />
(100), leaflets youth (1000), leaflets wardens (1000), activity booklets (2000).<br />
ACTION – CW to provide information for the activity booklets by the end of next week for the design<br />
team to produce the booklet.<br />
DESIGN UPDATE – Howard Rees<br />
A meeting was held and it was decided to combine design with control. HR and RD agreed this.<br />
CONTROL UPDATE – Alan Webber<br />
AW provided an update regarding control. Gwent Police is providing two officers per day for<br />
enforcement patrols. Paul Wallen will also be providing two wardens per day for patrols and SWFRS<br />
are providing two members of staff also. Meetings have taken place with the Forestry Commission<br />
and Countryside and Parks to discuss areas. Hot spot areas have been marked onto maps to be<br />
used by all those involved in control. Volunteers will also be involved in ‘Fire Watch’ during the 6-<br />
week period. Areas for mobile CCTV have been identified. It has been agreed that the control<br />
element of the project will operate from Bargoed Fire Station.<br />
ACTION – NK will liaise with KP regarding the use of volunteers to distribute leaflets.<br />
KP stated that when posters and information is taken to local shops they will be asked to sign up to a<br />
pledge supporting project Bernie.<br />
ACTION – DA to provide the correct wording of the pledge to KP for shops to sign and the information<br />
will then be posted to the website.<br />
SERVICE/SUPPORT – Bev Horrell<br />
PO’N confirmed that four sections of the youth service are involved in project Bernie. A youth panel<br />
was recruited and comments from them were received and fed back.<br />
AOB<br />
Facebook<br />
DA stated that a member of staff from SWFRS would be responsible for the Bernie Facebook page.<br />
Nicola will need a single point of contact for each of the Unitary Authorities for any questions relating<br />

to local knowledge. Contacts for Caerphilly County Borough Council will be Natalie Kenny, should<br />
Natalie be unavailable Nadine Hudson-Featherstone should be the contact.<br />
NK confirmed that NHF will be taking photographs during some of the activities of the first week and<br />
that arrangements would be made during the second week for those attending the activities to take<br />
the photographs.<br />
Launch<br />
The launch will be taking place at Tesco in Ystrad Mynach on the 1 st April 2011 between 10am and<br />
2pm. DA has arranged for a SWFRS vehicle to be present and NK has made arrangements for the<br />
mobile police station to also be available.<br />
