Integrated Business Process and
Rule Modeling
Modeling Decisions within Your Processes
A company’s business processes are comparable to the body’s nervous
system: When they are maintained and optimized, they increase
competitiveness and ensure survival in the marketplace. Their purpose
is to enable the company to reach customers with products and services
faster than the competition and to respond with agility to changes
in market requirements. The function of decisions is to allow choices
between the possible steps in a business process. They are often represented
as tasks or decision tables, but this typically only involves
indicating that an employee needs to make a decision—many process
modeling tools lack the capability to describe or model the decision at
the same level of depth as the business process. ARIS Business Rules
Designer delivers a comprehensive environment for modeling decisions
directly within ARIS business process models, allowing them to
be analyzed, reused, and converted into technical Web services for
execution.
User-Friendly Rule Modeling
The business rules associated with any business decision are best
understood by business users and analysts—typically the same
people who model the process. ARIS Business Rules Designer, following
a very similar philosophy to process modeling, allows the
people who model the business process to model how decisions are
made, explicitly describing the business rules associated with decisions.
Using a familiar spreadsheet-like interface, ARIS Business Rules
Designer enables business and IT users to describe the business
rules relating to a decision in natural language. Then, using dragand-drop
functionality, the user can formally model those business
rules.
Identifying and Correcting Business Rule
Deficiencies
ARIS Business Rules Designer is an intuitive tool that helps the business
user to automatically identify problems with their business rule
logic. Utilizing patented technology, ARIS Business Rules Designer
enables business and IT users to find critical design problems, such
as conflicting rules. ARIS Business Rules Designer can even analyze
the modeled rules and suggest new business rules that are relevant,
but have not been specified. Users can then use real data to test
their business decision to determine if the answer delivered by the
business rules is consistent with their expectations.
Collaborative Process and Rule Design
While normal rules engines approach rule management purely from
a technical perspective, ARIS Business Rules Designer also considers
rules in terms of business management. From structuring rules
according to their field of application through to managing rule services
in an enterprise architecture, all levels are supported. This integration
of business rule modeling and management in ARIS
Business Rules Designer enables companies to increase BPM efficiency
by 20 percent and greatly accelerate process implementation
in IT systems.
