FARMINGTON, N.Y. – Trainer Charlton Baker notched his 1,000th career win at<br />

Finger Lakes Casino and Racetrack on Saturday.<br />

He earned the milestone when Boston Chief scored a narrow victory by one-half<br />

length in the seventh race. Baker has racked up a large number of victories in a<br />

relatively short span of time. He officially began his career at Finger Lakes in<br />

1998 and has enjoyed a high rate of success. Since 2006, the 44-year-old has<br />

saddled a minimum of 70 winning horses every year. He achieved the 1,000<br />

victory mark with 4,424 lifetime starts which computes to a win rate of 23%.<br />

The high percentage trainer from St. Catherine, Jamaica is a second generation<br />

horseman. His father Carl trained at Caymanas Park in Jamaica and later<br />

conditioned thoroughbreds at Finger Lakes.<br />

Charlton Baker has saddled a total of 25 stakes winners and has a amassed a


sum of $14,316,373 in lifetime purse earnings. Three competitors from his barn<br />

were named Finger Lakes Horse of the Year. Runaway Tiger, Top Shoter and<br />

Johnie Bye Night all received the honor. Johnie By Night actively runs at the<br />

Western New York track with a resume that includes five stakes victories and a<br />

second place finish behind Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Funny Cide in<br />

the 2007 Wadsworth Memorial Stakes.<br />

Baker registered 868 of his 1,000 triumphs at Finger Lakes. He finished the 2010<br />

meet in second place in the trainer standings behind Chris Englehart with 82<br />

wins. He is currently fifth in the young 2011 season with 10 victories.<br />

Live racing continues at Finger Lakes every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday<br />

and Saturday. Post time each day is 1:10 p.m., with the exception of Friday,<br />

which is a 12:35 start. The casino floor featuring nearly 1,200 slots is open 10:00<br />

a.m. to 4:00 a.m. daily. Admission and parking are always free.
