SPAIN
The art of rising above it all
In the Spanish market, the Haulotte Group is definitely a
rising star in the world of art. After a well-noted entry
into the Queen Sofia National Museum of Modern Art
in Madrid, the Cuban New York artist-painter Jorge
Rodriguez put an H 12 SDX (HS 3388 RT*) scissor to rather
unconventional use: to create an immense wall fresco in
a workers’ neighbourhood in Madrid. A gigantic piece
was created as part of the Transurbancia exhibition, in
which eight nomadic artists transformed the urban space
of the Spanish capital through artistic expression …
and aerial work platforms!
NETHERLANDS
Haulotte on
land… And on sea
If there is a whiff of competition
in the air, Haulotte is always ready
to pick up the gauntlet, even in
the most unexpected places. In
the Netherlands, it is impossible
not to notice the famous nautical
regatta which takes place in
autumn in the Randmeren region.
Over these two weeks, the Haulotte Group earned its sea legs
as a partner in the event. And with what style! Our bravery, flair,
tactical sense prove that there are many similarities between
nautical competition and the business world. At stake is a good
sporting reputation for Haulotte, and a spectacular jump in
turnover (by 100 %) of the Dutch subsidiary in only a year, in a
hotly contested market…
POLAND
A subsidiary
Europe:
Haulotte Polska
The Haulotte Group
can also boast of one
more subsidiary as of
1 December 2005: in
Poland, another world
market entry. The aim is
high: to offer local-based
client service across the
Eastern European region,
where the group is already
well represented commercially.
Based in Warsaw in
Poland, the new facility will
Exhibition in Poznan from 24 to 27 January 2006.
GERMANY
Let’s head off to the countryside
for Platformers’ Days…
Here’s a pastoral way to discover the flagship products in Haulotte’s range of aerial
work platforms and telescopic handlers: take a field (preferably in some leafy woods),
make sure the weather is good, and bring together the major German rental firms
specialising in material and people lifting. Welcome to Hohenroda (in the state of
Hessen), right in the middle of Germany! For several years now, Patrick Degen and
his team from the German subsidiary have got into the habit of playing “gentleman
farmers” at the Platformers’ Days events at the end of August. And guess which rig
made itself most noticeable behind the trees?
The HA 32 PX (HA 100 JRT*) boom, of course …
USA
A lot of news
to discover on
RENTAL SHOW -
Orlando, Florida -
February 6-9, 2006.
At a time when the Group is reinforcing its leadership in Europe, and in recognition
of the USA being the largest single access equipment market in the world, Haulotte
Group is doubling its efforts in the North American market. Bernie Kiekebosch the
Managing Director of the Haulotte Australia operations for some 6 years is heading
up the process of redefining and implementing the operational objectives to ensure
that the company will meet its customer expectations into the long term future.
The focus for Haulotte US in 2006 will involve value added product support via the
establishment of a national customer service and parts support network.
An aggressive product and market development program has been established for
2006 with the launch of new models at the American Rental Show, Orlando Florida
February 6-9, 2006.
Come and see us at The American Rental Show in Orlando and talk to
the Haulotte team about its exiting plans of the US market in 2006.
FRANCE
Aerial work platforms in our clients’ colours…
Haulotte knows how to put itself out for its clients. When the Mediaco rental group,
one of the key players in lifting equipment market in France, Morroco and Algeria
placed an order for 93 new machines,
Haulotte was not content with
simply making delivery. Mediaco
wanted the machines personalised in
white and yellow, its two house
colours - would this be possible?
No problem, because we also provide
a painting service! And that is how
Mediaco has provided its clients since
1942 with equipment that is as capable
as it is… colourful.
Success together!
ALEXANDRE SAUBOT Chief Operating Officer
A good 2005
With net results showing significant progress
(€30 million), the Haulotte Group has had a good
2005. We owe this excellent performance first of all
to the willingness of our clients, which are multiplying
on all continents, to place their trust in us. Their
energy gives all of our teams the extra motivation to
continuously improve the quality of service that we
owe them. For Haulotte, this quality objective is
essential, as this forms the basis of long-term development.
Working to serve our clients better is to
engage in a process of support and development
over the long term.
This is our strategy.
This is focused on three main axes:
- The growth in the range of products thanks to
innovation, our attitude to customers, our pioneering
spirit, and identifying new requirements;
- The geographical growth of our commercial
network to provide improved proximity / reactiveness;
- The development of a service offer totally focused
on optimising the effective use of our products.
A better 2006
In fact, if our performance translates into a capability
to meet these clients’ needs (to produce more, to
deliver properly, and to deadlines…), this will feed
into a natural pace of progress which is both
constant and measured: to become the best link in
the value chain combined with maximised economic
leverage and differentiation. When we talk about
winning business and the expertise of our staff, the
Haulotte Group is in a legitimate position to consolidate
its position in these markets in 2006.The new
products that we plan to launch during upcoming
fairs (see page 8) will express this vision of progress
where product innovation (be it conceptual, technological
or ergonomic) becomes synonymous with
gains in productivity for their users. It is up to all of
us in this way to succeed together during a much
better 2006. It is this successful future that I wish for
our clients, our suppliers, and all of our staff, wherever
and whoever they may be.Their professionalism and
their dedication are the best foundations for the
future progress of the Haulotte Group.
I thank them all for everything they have done so far,
and for everything that is to come; and hope that they
find solid achievement for their personal ambitions
through this professional dynamism.
Human resources: the Skills Ace
The phenomenal growth of the Haulotte Group over the last few years – from 700 staff worldwide
at the end of 2003 to 1,200 in October 2005 – is paralleled by an ever-more finely tuned growth in
skills, so that all of our staff can reach the level of performance expected by our clients. The key to
HR lies with Philippe Noblet, Secretary General for human relations.
Can personal skills keep up with the rapid
and continuous pace of growth of the
Haulotte Group?
Philippe Noblet: Of course they can! We are lucky to
have a relatively young (33-35 is the average age),
dynamic and very motivated staff. This is nonetheless
not sufficient: one of the keys to our development lies
in a continuous raising in each individual’s skill level.
In reality, this translates into a global raise in the level of
recruitment, so that we can provide solutions to ever
more complex issues, such as rapid skillset development,
through the implementation of individualised
training courses.
What other HR tools favour skillset
development?
Philippe Noblet: The international dimension of
our group offers real opportunities for professional
development, and we encourage our staff to be
geographically mobile.
With this in mind, we have created personal development
courses which allow each and every one to move
forward within the company.
This is a motivational factor which especially allows
younger and more mobile staff to climb faster professionally
than on average.
Haulotte Group & Dakar:
The greatest challenges take us
to new heights
Our 2006 team with Segundo Fernandez,
Deputy Managing Director.
From 31 December 2005 to 15 January 2006,
the Haulotte Group is back on the Dakar road with a
double ambition: to hit a perfect sports score, and to
share this adventure throughout the company.
We did say that great challenges would take us to
new heights!
First the trial run, and now it’s for real.An unlucky participant in
the race in 2005 (we dropped out after a mechanical failure), the
Haulotte Group did not wait for the start of the 2006 Dakar
competition to make headlines. We are now official suppliers to
the rally!
“Thanks to this sponsorship, we will gain group-level publicity
demonstrating the will of a great team to succeed, which will
succeed at the highest levels of technology, development and
brand awareness”, explains Alexandre Saubot, Chief Operating
Officer of the Haulotte Group.
A partnership which will not stop the “yellow brand” from
feeding real sporting ambition during our second adventure at
the heart of the race, a competitive spirit expected of a brand
that is used to winning. The first time was enough to prove that
the Haulotte Group needed to participate once again in the
Dakar rally.
“Our company identifies completely with the values of this
challenge. This is about exertion, determination, competitiveness,
worth, adaptability to one’s environment and especially about
victory. For us, participating in this event is not only about name
brand recognition, it is also a reflection of our corporate
philosophy”, sums up Segundo Fernandez, Deputy Managing
Director of the Haulotte Group.
DAKAR SPECIAL

Haulotte
is in the race
This year, the Haulotte Group will field a Buggy-type
vehicle with a tubular chassis, the prototype of which was
partly built in the United States. The vehicle will be driven
by Miguel Prieto from Spain and Federico Montes from
Mexico. It’s worth remembering that Miguel Prieto, who
came second in the Dakar race in 1999, is recognised as
an expert in this type of competition.
In the spirit of its dedication to customer service, the
Haulotte Group will also field two service trucks in 2006.
The first truck will take part in the T4 group (participating
in the race), and the second one in the T5 group (out of
the race) to provide the expertise, technical advice and
spare part supply logistics to our vehicle as well as the
truck in the race.
Haulotte’s surprises

Haulotte Scandinavia,
Confidence from the North
Based in Gothenburg in Sweden,
Haulotte Scandinavia has taken only
four years to establish itself as a “leading”
brand in Northern Europe.
To all of the clients who have supported us
from the very start,THANK YOU!
The Scandinavian Haulotte “Team”, from left to right,
Elisabeth Locatelli, Renee Pettersson, Hans Eriksson, Hakan Wallin,
Per-Uno Sällberg, Ove Olsson and Annika Mäntyniemi.
When the Haulotte Group invested in the Scandinavian
market in November 2001, they did it with an attitude that
was anything but timorous, positioning themselves as an
ambitious group set upon shaking up old habits. Hakan Wallin,
one of the very first “movers and shakers”, remembers his
start as head of the branch: “We started with nothing, we had
to invent absolutely everything. Haulotte was brave to have faith
in me, because I didn’t speak a word of French!” For some this
might have been an inhibiting drag, but it was a simple detail
for Haulotte, who preferred to focus on Hakan Wallin’s
business sense and connections.
From Iceland to Russia
And he has done well. In just a few weeks, the “boss” of the
Scandinavian branch did the rounds of his former clients and
brought together the necessary cash-flow to kick off business
under good conditions. “I was lucky to very quickly have an
excellent technician and a capable assistant by my side.
There weren’t too many of us building the Haulotte name in
Scandinavia. We had to work very hard.”
Four years later, Hakan Wallin has improved his French vocabulary
… by four or five words. “I promise, I’ll get round to it
next week … if I can find the time, of course!” he jokes.
No one in the Haulotte group will take him to task for his lack
of language skills, because when it comes to business, the man
knows what he is talking about.
Four years were enough to make Haulotte Scandinavia a
“leading” branch, despite the diversity of the market. It covers
eight countries, (Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Estonia,
Latvia, Lithuania, Russia), requiring thousands of kilometres
(thousands of miles) of trips annually, and its broad cultural
diversity requires a very different approach to business.
N°3- 12/2005
Praise for faithful clients
“We have increased our market share year on year, and if 2005
was a good year, 2006 will need to be even better”, confides
Hakan Wallin, who is unaccustomed to resting on his laurels.
With 670 orders booked in 2004, 1,500 to 1,700 expected
for 2005, his prospects look encouraging to say the least.
“I didn’t think we would grow so much so fast. It just goes to show
that with a good team, high quality products and faithful clients,
anything is possible.”
Clients whom, actually, Hakan Wallin wants particularly to
thank: “It is thanks to them that we are where we are today.
I should list them all, but I am thinking in particular of Pekkaniska,
Haulotte unveils
its “Industrie” range
The Haulotte Group
made a notable
appearance from 11 to 15
October 2005 at the CeMAT
trade fair in Hanover (Germany),
which will provide a meeting place
for logistics industry professionals
every three years.
68,500 visitors, 1,000 exhibitors over 80,000 m2 (861,000 ft2 ): CeMAT proves itself year after year
as the world standard in industrial logistics.
A must-visit meeting place for every logistics,
transport, handling and storage professional. This was the perfect opportunity
for Patrick Degen, Director of the Haulotte Group’s German subsidiary, and
his team to meet potential customers from all over the world.
The curious and the knowledgeable came to scrutinise the technological
innovations, including part of Haulotte’s electric range, suitable for industrial
maintenance work: the Quick Ups, the Star mast range, Compact scissor lifts
and articulating booms.
CeMAT confirms buyers’ devotion to reliable products which are adapted to
different operating environments: in five days, more than 200 contacts were
made on our stand. The proof that the Haulotte Group can change to suit the
demand.
The Haulotte Group
publishes its accounts
to IFRS standard
Like all other European listed companies,
the Haulotte Group abandoned French
accountancy rules on 1 January 2005 in favour
of an international standard, called IFRS
(International Financial Reporting Standard).
This was a minor revolution for French companies, as
Jacques Benoit, Group Controller explains: “French
accountancy is more geared towards fiscal administration.
Conversely, the IFRS standard takes a completely economic
approach to transactions, better reflecting the true worth
of the company.” This is a new approach which could be
summed up as follows: “substance over shape”.
Haulotte had foreseen this huge accounting building site
since September 2003, when it put into place a work
group to evaluate the impact of applying these
standards, involving the accounting and business
development teams, the IT department and external
consultants (from Ernst & Young).
“This project was a force for unification within the group
because it required the re-building of our accountancy
processes and our IT systems, and for our teams to get to
grips with a vision of transactions completely unlike
anything they were used to”, underlines Jacques Benoit.
This had a lot of impact on publishing our accounts,
“notably where financing operations or finance guarantees
for client accounts,” the Group Controller continues.
“These elements had until now been marked "off record" -
which means that they were simply given a mention in the
annexes; but from now on, they were an integral part of
our assessments.”
There were other significant changes: the company
units, the need to break down assets into their
component parts, to depreciate them over the period
of time they would be useful to the company,
and to allocate a portion of the costs of research and
development; finally, the rules for determining turnover
would be much more strict from now on.
And it was like this that the Haulotte Group’s first
quarterly accounts were published using the IFRS
format in September 2005, once the company had
taken care to provide the market with retrospective
information in IFRS format (an IFRS re-processed
assessment on 1 January 2004, a re-processed income
statement for 2004, an assessment on 31 December
2004, and a transition note detailing explicitly
the impact of switching from the French standard
to the new norms).
A surfeit of clarity which investors, clients and suppliers
surely appreciate…
