USE<br />
• It is an equipment made for retaining the <strong>hydrocarbon</strong> in<br />
suspension that could be in dirt waters. It is obligatory headed<br />
by a <strong>decanter</strong> that will retain the heavy material.<br />
• The Spanish Water Law of 1985 <strong>and</strong> the corresponding local<br />
regulations forbid the spill of lubricant, oil <strong>and</strong> <strong>hydrocarbon</strong>, new<br />
or waste, in the superficial, underground waters or in sewers. So,<br />
it is essential to put a <strong>decanter</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>hydrocarbon</strong> <strong>separator</strong> in the<br />
service stations, mechanical workshops, parkings, vehicle cleaning<br />
areas, etc.<br />
• The <strong>hydrocarbon</strong> <strong>separator</strong>s <strong>with</strong> coalescing cell are particularly<br />
advisable to treat waters before their spill in sensible zones (rivers,<br />
lakes, seas, etc.) or when the local regulation ask for some results<br />
higher than it is usual.<br />
These <strong>separator</strong>s comply <strong>with</strong> the European Regulation<br />
prEN858, <strong>separator</strong>s of Class I (spill < 5mg/l).<br />
• We have a high range of <strong>hydrocarbon</strong> <strong>separator</strong>s that are made<br />
of either polyethylene or polyester or steel treated against corrosion<br />
(up to 150l/s).<br />
• This technical card is referred to polyethylene <strong>separator</strong>s <strong>with</strong><br />
<strong>decanter</strong> built-in, coalescing cell <strong>and</strong> outlet stopper, <strong>with</strong> nominal<br />
size of 3 l/s to 15 l/s <strong>with</strong> a separated output lower than 5mg/l of<br />
outlet <strong>hydrocarbon</strong>s.<br />
SEPARATOR TYPES<br />
• The described <strong>separator</strong>s have one peripheral <strong>decanter</strong>, one<br />
coalescing cell, one separation zone <strong>and</strong> one automatic stopping<br />
system. The <strong>decanter</strong>s are calculated according to the future<br />
European regulation that enforces a <strong>decanter</strong> volume mostly<br />
equivalent to a 200 times the nominal flow of the kit.<br />
FEATURES<br />

• Treatment capacity: 3 to 15 l/s<br />
• Decanter volume: 200 litres per l/s of nominal flow<br />

OPERATION<br />
• The <strong>hydrocarbon</strong> <strong>separator</strong> <strong>with</strong> coalescing cell operation is based<br />
on the gravitational separation of the heavy material that are non<br />
water-soluble because of difference on densities.<br />
• The waters <strong>with</strong> sludge <strong>and</strong> <strong>hydrocarbon</strong> go in the decantation<br />
part, where the heavier particles are decanted <strong>and</strong> retained. In<br />
the part of the kit separation of <strong>hydrocarbon</strong>, which density is<br />
lower than the water, they float to the surface. The coalescing cell<br />
is composed of alveolar plastic material; it accelerates the<br />
gravitational separation process of the <strong>hydrocarbon</strong>s that go away<br />
from the <strong>separator</strong>. The water <strong>with</strong>out <strong>hydrocarbon</strong>s goes back<br />
the wall <strong>and</strong> goes away from the kit. The kit has an automatic<br />
stopping device, composed of a valve <strong>and</strong> a float that covers the<br />
outlet of the <strong>separator</strong> before the maximum <strong>hydrocarbon</strong> retention<br />
capacity is reached, preventing the <strong>hydrocarbon</strong> outlet.<br />
INSTALLATION<br />
• The kit must be installed in the exterior perfectly leveled <strong>and</strong><br />
nearest of the spill point of the influent to deal <strong>with</strong>. It will be totally<br />
buried. The cover should get the ground level. The excavation<br />
bottom should be perfectly plan <strong>and</strong> recovered <strong>with</strong> 10cm of s<strong>and</strong>.<br />
The filling will be made <strong>with</strong> s<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> no <strong>with</strong> stones or pea gravel.<br />
The <strong>separator</strong> will be full of water at the same time that the<br />
excavation refilling is made.<br />
• The <strong>separator</strong> should be correctly ventilated to allow the gas outlet.<br />
It is advisable a minimum diameter of 100mm for the ventilation,<br />
which will be protected <strong>with</strong> a device that avoids the insect <strong>and</strong><br />
little animal entering.<br />
• No pumping installation should head to the <strong>separator</strong> to avoid the<br />
effluent emulsion.<br />
• Regarding to the stopper, it is necessary to unstick the base float,<br />
after filling the kit <strong>with</strong> water.<br />
• In the event of an installation in a ground water surface or floodable<br />
surface, please consult <strong>with</strong> our technical department.<br />
MAINTENANCE<br />
• The kit is made of plastic, so it is not sensible to the corrosion <strong>and</strong><br />
it does not need any maintenance.<br />
• Please, periodically check that the ventilation is not blocked.<br />
• When the retention capacity is reached, make an empty (pumping)<br />
of the <strong>hydrocarbon</strong>, as the decanted sludges. Yearly, you have<br />
to make a whole empty of the kit. Right away, after the empty,<br />
refill again the kit <strong>with</strong> water <strong>and</strong> check that the automatic stopper<br />
is duly floating in the upper water level.<br />
• In some use cases, it will be necessary to increase the empty<br />
numbers.<br />
• If there is some ground water surface, the empty has to be made<br />
when the weather is better (it is not raining).<br />
• If the vehicles are passing near or over it <strong>and</strong> if the cover is not<br />
at the level of the ground, a reinforced concrete slab should be<br />
put that rests in the firm excavation sides, never in the same kit.<br />
The slab should allow the access to the kit for its maintenance,<br />
<strong>with</strong> the corresponding risers. This slab should be calculated to<br />
resist the eventual charges.<br />
